Che's remains are finally located in Bolivia and are returned to Cuba where they are placed in a memorial at Santa Clara.
April he says a message that "two, three, many Vietnam's." He is captured in Bolivia and killed the next day by orders from Washington.
Che returns to Bolivia in disguise.
Leads mission to Congo to support liberation movement founded by Patrice Lumumba. Castro covers up Che's whereabouts and Che returns to Cuba to prepare a secret mission to Bolivia.
Before heading to Africa he addresses the UN General Assembly in December.
Goes to Algeria which had recently won independence from government of Ahmed Ben Bella.
Fusion of Cuban revolutionary organizations occurs, he is elected to the National Directorate. Visits Soviet Union for the second time.
Appointed head of Ministry of Industry. August he head Cuba's delegation to the Organization of American States at Punta del Este, Uruguay, where he denounces U.S. President Kennedy's Alliance for Progress.
Takes trips to Soviet Union, the German Democratic Republic, Czechoslovakia, China and North Korea representing the revolutionary government and signing several key trade agreements.
HE becomes a Cuban citizen because of his contribution to the island's liberation. Marries Aleida MArch and has four children. October is appointed head of the Industrial Department of the Institute of Agrarian Reform and in november becomes President of the National Back of Cuba.
Che shows outstanding military abilities and in July 1957 is promoted to Commander. In December 1958 he leads the Rebel Army to a decisive victory over Batista's forces at Santa Clara in central Cuba.
Meets Fidel Castro and agrees to join group to wage war against the Batista dictatorship. He is now called Che a nickname for Argentines.
Ernesto's political views are radicalized when in Guatemala he sees the overthrow of democratically elected government of Jacobo Arbenez by U.S. backed forces. He meets Peruvian Hilda Gadea who he has a daughter Hildita with.
Ernesto graduates and embarks on road trip through Latin America. Meets Antonio Lopez and Cuban revolutionary. In Bolivia he is a witness to the Bolivian revolution.
Ernesto and friend Alberto Granado decide to ride his bike on a road trip to North America. This leads to the writing of the motorcycle diaries.
Sets out on a 4,500 kilometer road trip around the north of Argentina on a bike
Instead of studying engineering he enrolls in medical school at the University of Buenos Aires. He got by with a series of part-time jobs.
