In 1823 Secretary of State Adams created the Monroe Doctrine. To was a statement on foreign policy set forth by the President and Secretary of State Adams to help with events in Latin American, Europe, and the Pacific Coast of North American. Due to the Latin Colonies that declared independence the attention of the American people was captured a held by two important men. Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin, they were considered Patriots
While this is not the actual freeing of the slaves, it is the first federal statement involving the abolition of slavery from none other than President Lincoln
3 million faught, 600,000 dead. To this day, no one still knows the true casue of the Civil War. What we do know is that if there had not been slavery the Civil War would have never happened. The war had consisted of the Northerns and the Southerns. If the Civil War had never happened there would still be slavery here in the United Staes. Many people in the war were fighting either for or against slavery.
This is the treaty between the USA, Great Britian, and Ireland regarding an area known as Oregon Country. The treaty stated that only US government has power there
The Electric Telegraph was invented in 1837 by Samuel Morris. He was assisted by Alfred Vail who helped develope Morris code. When the first telegram was sent, it was sent through 2 miles of wire. With the Electric Telegragh now invented, people did not have to write letters. They could use Morris code through the Electric Telegraph to communicate with each other.
Public schools were not created until late 1834. The more people gained the right to vote the more education they need so that they could pick a wise candidate. The US democracy demanded and informed educated people, but that goal was not easy to achieve. Horace Mann pressed for a bill to make public education everywhere; during his time as a secretary of the sate board of education in Massachusetts he opened 50 new public schools. Because of Mann Massachusetts became the model for all Northern States. The establishment of public schools was not easily come by. Most communities that voted in favor of public schools were unwilling to tax the people to pay for the schools. Because of this Roman Catholics, Lutherans, and other religious groups began to run their own private schools. Many people who sent their kids to private school did understand why they needed to be taxed while their child wasn’t even going to that school; also families with out children were also opposed.
In 1810, Fredrick Koening built off of the printinig press to make it faster and more efficient. He had invented the Steam-Powered Printing Press which was able to print out newspapers with writing on each side of the paper. The invention was sold to The Times. A London Newspaper company. A man named Bauer had also helped assist Koenig with his invention.
This marks the acquisition of louisiana by the USA. The Louisiana territory was purchased from the French for 10 million USD
This case involved a newly accounted Secretary of State, James Madison, and commissions of several justices of the peace. A commission according to Dictionary.com is, a document conferring authority issued by the president of the U.S. to officers. When Madison told Jefferson about the commission he was told to withhold them from the justices. One the justices, William Mayberry, whose commission was being withheld, petitioned the supreme court for a writ of mandamus, or a court order requiring specific action. The Supreme Court decided that Mayberry had the right to be a judge an ordered the writ.
“Cotton is king” was the phrase mostly used in the South and I had a direct affect on the structure of Southern society. At the top of the structure were wealthy planters, who had 50-200 people working under him. The next level was the less wealthy planters who owned medium sized farms. Directly after were the owners of small farms. Near the bottom of the social scale were impoverished white people, who were usually illiterate and did not have regular employment. The lowest on the cotton-created scale were African Americans.
When Andrew Jackson was elected many minorities suffered. Women made some small gains in their personal freedoms, but The Cherokee Indians suffered greatly. Most Americans thought that the area between the Missouri River and the Rocky Mountains would be a permanent reservation from Native Americans. The Cherokee had developed a lifestyle which included schools, mills, and turnpikes. Although in 1820 they began to feel pressure from the US to give up their land, so they wrote a constitution and hired lawyers. When they resisted moving peacefully out west Andrew Jackson sent in the army and forced them to move. This was called the “Trail of Tears”.
Cotton gin was invented in 1793 by Eli Whitney. This machine allows people topick the seed from the cotton really fast. Many farmer changed from growing food to growing cotton, and cotton gin lead America into new industrial frontier, but on the other hand, cotton gin makes farmers really dependent upon cotton and it caused the continuation of slavery.
During the late 1800's American continued to use looks thought out their building. Charles Bullfinch created and distinctive Federal used often in federal buildings. Massachusetts State House is one of the example. Charles Bullfinch's building influenced through out the northeast. This were used in both domestic and public/private buildings
Slave Songs were work song sang by African American. They used music to help endure long hard work days in the cotton field. Because many slve owners forbid the use of drums and horns, they sing a song to make rhythm. Usually, lyrics of the songs had a hidden message to help communicate their fears and plans to other slaves. Later Slave Songs became a blues.
This religious revival occurred in 1780 to 1840s. In the Late 1700s, many Americans stop attending church. They believed that God is not important in everyday life. Many religious group sponsored religious revivals. These revivals allowed people to get back to their religion and also helped rural families an opportunity to talk with other. Many religious groups were benefited from the Second Great Awakening. And this helped to repeal slavery.
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. It is the reason why we have are Independence from Great Britain and it was declared a year after the American Revolutionary War. The United States celebrates the Declaration of Independence once a year, July 4th. On July 4th we get to realize how important this even was and we get to be thankful.
