• Last American Troops Leave Vietnam
  Mar 19, 1973

  The troops left two monthes after the signing of the Vietnam peace agreement. 7,000 Department of Defense employees stayed in South Vietnam.

• Operation Arc Light

  This involved huge B-52 air raids. These were the largest U.S bombing strikes since the end of WW11.

• Operation Linebacker 2

  The most concentrated bombing campaigns happened during this time. It was nicknamed the "Christmas bombing". The bombings were against military targets. It began and ended so quickly everyone was shocked all around the world.

  It was an attack from Viet Cong and North Vietnamese. They attacked The South Vietnamese and Saigon. This attack was unsuccessful.

• The battle of Khe Sanh
  1968

  This was a major battle during the Vietnam war. Khe Sanh was the location of a U.S base. President Johnson was obsessed with defending it. It was a battle against South Vietnam.

• My Lai Massacre

  This was the killing of 109 civilians in My Lai village. The village was located in South Vietnam. 30 Soldiers were charged with war crime and were sentenced to prison until 1971

• Operation Cedar Falls

  This was to be a parachute assault. The operation was supossed to be called Junction city. Instead they named it Cedar Falls.

  The marines landed on Red Beach Two, north of Danang. There was 3,500 marines. They covered 4,000 yards of land.

• Operation Rolling Thunder

  The rolling thunder attacks were air bombing attacks. During this period 408,599 tons of bombs were dropped by 309,996 US bombers. This happened over North Vietnam.

• Gulf of Tonkin Incident
  Aug 1964

  two U.S destroyers reported being fired on by North Vietnamese torpedo boats. No one knows if the shots were fired, but congress passed the Tonkin Gulf Resolution. This increased U.S involvement in the Vietnam war.

• Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

  This resolution repeled any armed attack against U.S forces. It was to preveant any further aggression. It was signed by congress.
