Factories and miners hired childern for their nimble fingers and quick movement. Miners would have them go into the narrow mining shafts where others couldn't fit. Often hired orphans, making them work for long hours and mininal food.
Woman made up a large portion of the work force. They wherte offten prefered over man workers because they where thought that they could adapt better to new machines. The woman could also be payed less for the same job.
Individuals made improvements in local systems of transportation. Capitalists invested in turnikes, or privately built roads that charged a fee to travelers who used them. Canals were dug, and engineers built stronger bridges and upgraded harbors.
