Winners and losers in EU renewables 'revolution' - Highlights from EurActiv debate
A "revolution" has begun at all levels to meet the EU's long-term goals on renewable energy -- but there will be winners and losers, warned policymakers at a Fondation EurActiv debate on Tuesday. This video shows highlights from the debate. Europe must spend much more on new infrastructure to get renewables into the grids, but the system has to be commercially viable, the participants agreed. The debate, hosted by Fondation EurActiv in the European Parliament, was held in the light of the EU's 2020 energy strategy, which was endorsed by EU leaders at the first ever energy summit on 4 February. "More than 70% of all investments in supply in the next ten years must be in renewables in order to reach the binding targets," stressed MEP Claude Turmes, vice-chair of the Greens group in the European Parliament. Full story on EurActiv.com: www.euractiv.com Fondation EurActiv on 8 February 2011 organized a debate at the European Parliament under the title: 'Renewables; Fuelling Europe's competitiveness and cohesion'. Following the presentation of the EU Energy 2020 strategy and the Communication on Energy Infrastructure Priorities, EurActiv invited policymakers and stakeholders to debate the evolving role of renewables and green innovation in Europe's energy mix. Participating are Claude Turmes, MEP for the Greens/EFA group from Luxembourg, and host of the debate; Philip Lowe, DG of DG ENER at the European Commission; Arne Mogren, Director of the European Climate Foundation; Mel ...

Food Valley Open Innovation Seminar: Sustainable Sourcing: the Case of Sustainable Palm Oil
In recent years, palm oil's unique food application functionalities and low cost price have caused a significant increase in the demand for palm oil usage in the food industry. With the continuously growing world population, this rise in demand calls for sustainable palm oil production to limit the impact on the environment and the societies where the oilpalm is grown. Initiatives, like the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and efforts made by individual palm oil processors and consumer goods manufacturers, continually seek to advance the production, procurement and use of sustainable palm oil, with the aim to decrease the harmful effects on people, planet and profit. Date: Thursday, February 10, 2011 Time: 14.00 - 18.30 Venue: WWF @ Driebergseweg 10, 3708 JB Zeist During the seminar we will have a closer look at what it takes to achieve the goal to use sustainable palm oil throughout the entire food supply chain. Through presentations on the sector initiatives, business experiences from frontrunners within the supply chain and an open discussion we aim to provide insights in this subject matter and to share best practices. Entrepreneurial Learning 2.0 Navigating the Coming Disruption in How We Learn To Innovate
Google Tech Talk December 15, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Dr. Alex Bruton. Imagine graduating from college or university today. Sure, youd have free access to useful information like no generation before yours has ever had, and all the tools you could dream of for producing and sharing information as readily as it can be consumed. No, you may never need to pay for a long distance call, a travel agent, an encyclopedia or a web developer. And yes, before too long the businesses you start would be able to house and scale all of their data and software in the cloud, at next to no cost. But as enabling as all this might be, it wouldnt guarantee your success (or the success of the companies at which you would work) and could even be a disadvantage if you (or your bosses) have grown up learning in a traditional education system. Whole industries from music to journalism to education are being disrupted by the very forces that make these advances possible. The facts seem to indicate that the top 10 jobs to be in demand in 2010 didnt even exist in 2004 and that that people graduating this year could have up to 14 jobs before they turn 39. And its becoming clear that different ways of thinking are needed now than even 10 years ago in order to be creative and efficient enough to turn the flow of information into knowledge that can create sustained value in our society, businesses and economy. The solution to these challenges is one part toolset and large part mindset, and enabling ...

Copywriting: How To Target Your Ideal Prospects
www.infomarketingblog.com 1. The most important decision. We have learned that the effect of your advertising on your sales depends more on this decision than on any other: how should you position your product? Should you position Schweppes as a soft drink or as a mixer? Should you position Dove as a product for dry skin or as a product which gets hands really clean? The results of your campaign depend less on how we write your advertising than how your product is positioned. It follows that positioning should be decided before the advertising is created. Research can help. Look before you leap. 2. Large promise. The second most important decision is this: what should you promise the customer? A promise is not a claim, or a theme, or a slogan. It is a benefit for the consumer. It pays to promise a benefit which is unique and competitive, and the product must deliver the benefit your promise. Most advertising promises nothing. It is doomed to fail in the marketplace. Promise, large promise, is the soul of an advertisement - said Samuel Johnson. 3. Brand image. Every advertisement should contribute to the complex symbol which is the brand image. 95% of all advertising is created ad hoc. Most products lack any consistent image from one year to another. The manufacturer who dedicates his advertising to building the most sharply defined personality for his brand gets the largest share of the market. 4. Big ideas. Unless your advertising is built on a big idea, it will pass ...
