Now let's see more informations about twitter
Amazingly, it's five years ago today that the first tweet was sent and twitter have a Tiny team . Over these years, Twitter has matured and made an impact in the areas of social responsibility, politics, sports, media, and more. The people who use Twitter have made it what it is today, and on our fifth birthday, it's the people that make Twitter special who we are celebrating.
There are now more than 400 full time employees working at Twitter. In the last year alone we have made huge progress towards stability and performance. This work sets us up to continue innovating but it also allows us to build a profitable business on a strong foundation. We are in a position now which allows us to continue serving and delighting everyone who relies on Twitter to connect them to that which is meaningful for another five years and beyond.
Twitter users now send more than 140 million Tweets a day which adds up to a billion Tweets every 8 days—by comparison, it took 3 years, 2 months, and 1 day to reach the first billion Tweets. While it took about 18 months to sign up the first 500,000 accounts, we now see close to 500,000 accounts created every day. All of this momentum and growth often pales in comparison to a single compassionate Tweet by a caring person who wants to help someone in need. Now let's see some twitter statistics Today, on every measure of growth and engagement, Twitter is growing at a record pace. Here are some numbers:
#tweets
3 years, 2 months and 1 day. The time it took from the first Tweet to the billionth Tweet.
1 week. The time it now takes for users to send a billion Tweets.
50 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, one year ago.
140 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, in the last month.
177 million. Tweets sent on March 11, 2011.
456. Tweets per second (TPS) when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 (a record at that time).
6,939. Current TPS record, set 4 seconds after midnight in Japan on New Year’s Day.
#accounts
572,000. Number of new accounts created on March 12, 2011.
460,000. Average number of new accounts per day over the last month.
182%. Increase in number of mobile users over the past year.
#employees
8. 29. 130. 350. 400. Number of Twitter employees in Jan 2008, Jan 2009, Jan 2010, Jan 2011 and today.
The people who use Twitter make it special because for any interest we might have, somebody is tweeting about it. We're lucky to have so many people using Twitter in so many interesting and important ways. Happy Birthday, Twitter—and thank you.

#edtech20 project Teaching web 2.0 safety in the clouds
1.Pearltrees is my favorite social curation tool in 2010 and here you can make a PLN - social curation community. It is the social way to discover, organize and share the stuff you like on the web.Use Pearltrees to keep the stuff you like on the web at hand, to discover new things in your areas of interest and to share them with your friends.Pearltrees game play is pretty simple, but its potential is limited solely by your imagination:Pearl the stuff you like on the Web.Organize your pearls into your own pearltrees.Discover other users' pearltrees with the search box or the minipearl.Team up with others to curate the pearltrees you likePick pearltrees when you are interested in them and follow their updates Share pearltrees by embedding them on your blog or on other social services . THE BEST NEWS PEARLTREES IT IS FREE AND YOU CAN ORGANIZE AND TRANSFFER HERE DELICIOUS BOOKMARKS .
2.Eegoes is a new tool described as a “new generation” of social networking aims to provide a user-friendly and innovative platform for social interaction, that lets users filter their content through keyword settings to deliver only the information most relevant to their interests.Users can customize their views, to see “Everything”, or only view “Videos”, “Pictures”, “Notes”, “Events”, “Links” or “Interests.” Users can connect via Facebook or Twitter and sync their accounts or establish parts of their account as private and public through user-friendly controls.I invite all to join and collaborate in #edtech20 Eegoes group .
3.Facebook is the best way to make a PLN and to collaborate in groups and make facebook pages giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Facebook it is also an incredible learning tool in XII Century Education . Teachers and educators can utilize Facebook for class projects, for enhancing communication and collaboration and for engaging students in a manner that might not be entirely possible in traditional classroom settings. On facebook you can add photos , videos , presentations and much , much more applications and for this reason I invite you to join and post on main page of #edtech20 project with 350 fans .
4.LinkedIn is a tool where you can make a PLN Professional Learning Network and was built for professionals who want to use their existing and future social networks to build a career. LinkedIn is not like MySpace and Facebook. It’s not where teenagers post photos , videos and presentations with their activities The LinkedIn profile is exactly like a resume, but it holds a lot more information. It includes fields for education, jobs, experience, interests, awards and honors, and personal information. Most people use LinkedIn to “get to someone” , to connect and collaborate in order to make a sale, form a partnership, or get a job. I invite you all to join free and collaborate in #edtech20 LinkedIn group .
5.Diigo has become one of the most popular social bookmarking services used by educators and it is a gr8 opportunity for Delicious and I like very much this edtool . Diigo offers good tools for highlighting, annotating, bookmarking, and sharing what you like on the Internet. Diigo is an effective tool for teaching because Diigo's features allow teachers to highlight critical features within text and images and write comments directly on the web pages, to collect and organize series of web pages and web sites into coherent and thematic sets, and to facilitate online conversations within the context of the materials themselves. Diigo also allows teachers to collaborate and share resources among themselves. Diigo is much more than a simple web annotation or social bookmarking service -- it is a new kind of online research and collaborative research tool that integrates tags and folders, highlighting and clipping, sticky notes, and group-based collaboration, enabling a whole new process of online knowledge management, learning, and teaching in the information age.Diigo group #edtech20 With Version 5.0, Diigo moves one step further towards its vision of providing the best cloud-based personal information management (PIM) service that enables users to collect, highlight, access and share a variety of information, on a variety of devices.
6. Wiggio, you can share and edit files, manage a group calendar, poll your group, post links, set up conference calls, chat online and send mass text, voice and email messages to your group members. Each group member can define how they want to keep informed of group activity. For a complete overview of what your group can do on Wiggio, click on the following video:
7.Cloudworks, a social networking site for sharing and discussing learning and teaching ideas and designs. The work is underpinned by an ongoing programme of empirical work, aimed at getting a richer understanding of educational design processes. Data collected includes interviews, surveys, observations, web statistics, focus groups, as well as gathering data at workshops and other events we run. The empirical data informs the three main strands : representing pedagogy, informing the design process and facilitating the sharing and discussing of designs. I invite you all to join free #edtech20 Cloudworks group
Ning is the world's largest platform for creating social websites. Top organizers, marketers, influencers, and activists use Ning to create an online destination that weaves social conversations in content and inspire action. Unfortunatelly Ning network isn’t free but I keep the #edtech20 PLN http://web20ineducation2010.ning.com/forum/topics/collaboration-in-edtech20-pln?commentId=5366584%3AComment%3A1505 where I wan to collaborate with teachers worldwide . I like Ning Ning because made it easy for members to get involved and submit their own photos, videos, blog posts , collaborate in the forum and you can add many apps on your Ning network .

Now let's see what is a PLN , how to build a #edtech20 PLN and what are the best edtools to make a PLN in XXI Century Education
Personal Learning Networks consist of the people a learner interacts with and derives knowledge from in a Personal Learning Environment.( systems that help learners take control of and manage their own learning ) . An important part of this concept is the theory of connectivism developed by George Siemens and Stephen Downes. Learners create connections and develop a network that contributes to their professional development and knowledge . The learner does not have to know these people personally or ever meet them in person. The following is an excerpt from Dryden's and Vos' book on learning networks:"For the first time in history, we know now how to store virtually all humanity's most important information and make it available, almost instantly, in almost any form, to almost anyone on earth. We also know how to do that in great new ways so that people can interact with it , and learn from it." . You can read more about PLN here , here , here , here or hereI think all the teachers should build a PLN because in collaboration with other teachers they can share knowledge in groups and using web 2.0 and social media they can bring edreform in XXI Century Education . I am member in many #edtech20 PLNs , but unfortunatelly most of the teachers only use the informations and tools from the networks and don't collaborate with other teachers and for this reason you can read : Collaboration in #edtech20 PLN . Ok now lets see the gr8 #edtech20 tools to build a PLN in XXI Century Education in my next blog post .

Read more on the Insafe Blog and Insafe Network about Safer Internet Day 2011 celebrated every year in 8 february and don't forget ,, It's more than a game, it's your life! "
To learn more about Safer Internet Day meetings in your region or at the international level this year, stay posted at: www.saferinternetday.org and check out the SID fair www.sidfair.org.
Today the Insafe network, European network of Safer Internet Centres, is celebrating Safer Internet Day for the eighth consecutive year. This is the occasion of the year to join our efforts in making the internet a better place for our children and young people. Since the first edition of SID in 2004, interest has grown tremendously world wide to reach all five continents and more than 70 countries, from Canada to South Korea and Russia to Kenya, including all 27 countries of the European Union.
"Safer Internet Day is the annual highlight for the wide range of people and organisations who work hard to make the internet safer. Today, Safer Internet Centres, educators, parents, industry policy makers and children themselves all have the opportunity to review their achievements and identify challenges ahead" said Neelie Kroes, patron of Safer Internet Day, and European Digital Agenda Commissioner. "For children and young people especially, it is both a celebration of the wonderful opportunities the online world offers, and a reminder that they need to be responsible citizens in the digital world. I am proud to support Safer Internet Day".Safer Internet Day 2011 celebrates the theme “digital lives” with the slogan "It’s more than a game, it’s your life", encouraging people to think about their online identity and the survival of their real self through the online experience. And because Insafe strongly believes in the power of the voice of youth and makes a point of relaying their ideas and opinions, today we have published videos made by our national Youth Panels. Take a look for yourself to see how young people really feel about these issues. To discover all the fantastic online and offline activities organised in your country check out our Safer Internet Day fair (www.sidfair.org), a collaborative platform where more than 80 Safer Internet Day committees, international organisations and stakeholders have their profile and communicate about their actions.Safer Internet Day 2011 will also mark the launch of a brand new publication full of fun activities for 4-8 year-olds. Entitled Play and Learn: Being online and developed by Insafe in collaboration with our SID gold sponsor Liberty Global Inc., this is an indispensable resource for young children as well as for their parents and teachers. As young children are now using computers and surfing on the internet at an increasingly early age, Insafe is once again leading the field by providing a resource that will raise their awareness to the opportunities and risks they may encounter online whilst honing their linguistic, cultural and social skills.A second SID launch for the Insafe network is the Digipack 2011 which offers teachers and parents Europe-wide an exciting and eagerly-awaited range of educational resources. From handbooks for teachers to videos for parents and children, these 30 high quality resources will be of great use to professionals in the field.Visit our website www.saferinternet.org and that of your national awareness centre to get tips on how to protect yourself and your privacy online.

Web 2.0 and new tehnologies in education still 2010 on Facebook5.DIIGO IN EDUCATION : The 21st century calls for knowledge workers who can effectively utilize the vast array of information that resides on the internet and who are capable of processing the information collaboratively with others. Bob Wolf, of The Boston Consulting Group, and a researcher on the use of internet in public education recently commented: "We believe that Web2.0 technologies will define and be defined by the skill requirements of the 21st century workforce. It is time to understand whether models have emerged for using these tools that are superior to traditional classroom teaching alone and what are the best approaches for the practitioner to implement them."In the education setting, we all know that project-based learning is an effective way to teach students and cultivate their skills of finding, organizing, synthesizing, and presenting information, as well as the social skills of working in groups, all of which are necessary in the knowledge-based economy. Among the web 2.0 technologies, Diigo is a great tool for this kind of exploratory and collaborative learning.
Diigo is an effective tool for teaching as well. Diigo's features allow teachers to highlight critical features within text and images and write comments directly on the web pages, to collect and organize series of web pages and web sites into coherent and thematic sets, and to facilitate online conversations within the context of the materials themselves. Diigo also allows teachers to collaborate and share resources among themselves.
Diigo is much more than a simple web annotation or social bookmarking service -- it is a new kind of online research and collaborative research tool that integrates tags and folders, highlighting and clipping, sticky notes, and group-based collaboration, enabling a whole new process of online knowledge management, learning, and teaching in the information age.Diigo group #edtech20

Some times ago I started to use flock and I like very much this web 2.0 and social media browser . In 2 december Flock launched latest release, the new Flock v3.5 browser. New Flock lets you enjoy the benefits of an even faster and better-performing Chromium 7. Flock now integrate with LinkedIn and offer new Flock for the Mac. With LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr all together in your Sidebar, its simple to follow and search friends and family and that much easier to organize your online content, both personally and professionally.
,, Flock continues to provide the most effortless way to get the most out of your social experience. Flock is the only browser that lets the user:
-See all of their social content in one place by simply glancing at the sleek Flock Sidebar, including tweets, Facebook and LinkedIn status updates, RSS feeds, and YouTube and Flickr content. Other browsers require that a user click down several layers for RSS content, Twitter and Facebook updates and do not support LinkedIn, YouTube and Flickr.
-Choose to see everyone in the Sidebar and get their updates fast. With other browsers there is no immediate time-based stream of all friends and content. And users cannot see who has the most recent status updates across services.
- Share content and updates across Facebook, LinkedIn and multiple Twitter accounts with two clicks. With other browsers you have to perform separate operations for each service you want to update.
-Group friends in multiple ways while still having their social media updates visible in the scrolling Sidebar. They can also combine or group their friends according to work, play, school, clubs, interests—any way they choose. Other browsers do not allow users to combine or group their friends across services, or view friends by service, all in the same convenient user interface.
- Utilize Social Search, so users can “See what your friends are saying.” When you enter a question or search query in the address bar, Flock shows you recent pages, favorite sites and feeds, and Google search results, as well as any matches from your friends’ status updates, tweets, and photo/video uploads across all of your social networks.

1 Mounth ago I discover another interesting web 2.0 and social media browser Rockmelt .
Rockmelt a new browser designed around you and how you use the Web.
RockMelt does more than just navigate Web pages. It makes it easy for you to do the things you do every single day on the Web: share and keep up with your friends, stay up-to-date on news and information, and search. And of course, RockMelt is fast, secure, and stable because it’s built on Chromium, the open source project behind Google’s Chrome browser. It’s your browser – re-imagined and built for how you use the Web. If you can stand a few kinks and bugs, sign up for early access, and we’ll get you an invitation as soon as we can. We’d love to know what you think.Your World Built into Your BrowserWith RockMelt we’ve re-thought the user experience because a browser can and should be about more than simply navigating Web pages. Today, the browser connects you to your world. Why not build your world right into your browser?Your friends are important to you, so we built them in. Now you’re able to chat, share that piano-playing-cat video everyone’s going to love, or just see what your friends are up to, regardless of what site you’re on. Your favorite sites are important to you, so we built them in too. Now you can access them from anywhere, without leaving the page you’re on. And RockMelt will tell you when something new happens.Share or tweet links often? Yeah, us too. No more wading through each site’s goofy share widget or copy-pasting URLs. We built sharing directly into the browser, right next to the URL bar. Like a site or story? Click “Share” and BAM – link shared. You can use it on any site to post to Facebook or tweet about it on Twitter. It’s just one click away. That easy. Personalized and Backed by the CloudWherever you go on the Internet, RockMelt makes the Web a personal experience. Because RockMelt is the first browser you log into, it unlocks your Web experience with your Facebook friends, your feeds, your favorite services, even your bookmarks and preferences. RockMelt is also the first browser to be fully backed by the cloud. This means you can access your personal browsing experience from anywhere, and you get quick updates from the people and sites that are important to you.Behind the scenes, RockMelt is always working on your behalf. Do you visit the same site 10 times a day, checking for new posts or updates? Well, RockMelt keeps track of all your favorite sites for you, alerting you when a new story comes out, a friend posts new pictures, or a new video is available. And when you open a RockMelt feed, the content is already waiting for you. You can Like, comment, reply, retweet, share - all the actions you’ve come to expect from each service you follow.Faster SearchLast but not least, RockMelt makes search faster. And better. We got tired of clicking back and forth trying to find the right search result. So we made search as simple as leafing through a magazine. With RockMelt, you can use your keyboard to flip through Google search results and pick the one you want. Super fast. Super cool. Rock Solid FoundationAny intro to RockMelt wouldn’t be complete without recognizing all the tremendous work that came before us—and which we’ve built upon. We’re based on Chromium, the open source project behind Google’s Chrome browser, which in turn is based on WebKit, the open source HTML layout engine used by Apple, as well as a host of other projects from Mozilla and others. These projects, which we contribute to, represent the best browser technology out there. RockMelt wouldn’t be possible without these projects, as well as the open APIs, help and support we’ve received from Facebook, Twitter, and others. We’re proud and deeply grateful to be able to build on the shoulders of these giants. Thanks friends! Get Your RockMelt On!After two years of work, RockMelt is still a baby. It’s our baby and we’re proud of it, but we’re most excited about what it will grow into. We’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to do. If you’re on Mac or Windows and you don’t mind some kinks and bugs, we hope you’ll sign up for early access and let us know what you think! We are sending out invitations as fast as we can, while making sure our service scales up. We hope you like RockMelt as much as we do. You can follow our blog or our Twitter account or like us on Facebook for updates. Happy browsing!
