The Great Queen Victoria died at the age of 81, after ruling the United Kingdom for 63 years. She is remembered for her expansion and general imrpovement of the Kingdom, but most of all, she is known for the values that she enforced, creating a whole age in history. The "Public Heatlh Act" was passed in the United Kingdom to combat filthy urban living conditions that were running rampant throughout the kingdom. This was, of course, a great danger and health risk. The Act forced the construction of modern sewers and paved streets with lighting. It also abolished ramshacle structures and claled for the imrpovement of all buildings. The Act took some time to be enforced because of the lack of money, but it imrpoved the mayor cities of the Empire.
All throughout the world, debtors prisons were a very common way of dealing with large debts. Sometimes, the debtor went to a nice prison and was allowed good conditions. Other times they were placed with hardened criminals. In 1869, Queen Victoria abolished these prison's in the United Kingdom. One could still go to prison for up to a year if you had the money to pay a debt but you refused to.
In 1859, Charles Darwin published what he considered to be his greatest work. This English naturalist had travled the world and concluded that species evolved from simple form into what they are today. This completely revoluzionized science and religion. New Zealand was one of the first British colonies to be established after the great revolution in the Amercias. This moment was very important becasue it showed Britain's intent of expansion and the early advances of Imperialism. New Zealand would only be the first of many colonies soon to be established acroos the globe.
