• Tea Act
  1773

  Tea was very popular in the colonies, but it was stolen from Holland, so tax was placed on the tea to prevent more smuggling

• Boston Tea Party
  1773

  the Sons of Liberty set up the Boston Tea Party

• Boston Massacre
  1770

  Violence came up because of the tension from the british soldiers

• Stamp Act
  1765

  The law required all legal/official documents to have a stamp showing tax payment

• Sugar Act
  1764

  Parliament passed the law to place tax on sugar, molases, and other goods.

• English Bill of Rights
  1689

  The document said to respect the rights of English citizens and of the parliament

• Fundamental Orders of Connecticut
  1639

  This document provided more voting rights to non-church members. It also separated church and state

• Mayflower Compact
  Nov 11, 1620

  A document that the pilgrims on the Mayflower had to agree to. It said they have to vow to obey the laws agreed on for the good of the colony. This made the colony more stable

• Virginia House of Burgesses
  Jul 30, 1619

  The Virginia House of Burgesses became the first representative government and it gave the colonies/colonists more power. The first meeting was held on July 30th, 1619

• Jamestown is completed
  Jun 15, 1607

  On June 15, 1607, Jamestown was completed, becoming the first permanent settlement in Virginia.

• Magna Carta
  Jun 22, 1215

  This document guaranteed rights of Englishmen, more power to the nobles, and it limited the king's power.
