Kaiser Wilhelm stepped down from the throne and then Germany became a republic. The representative signed a treaty with the French Commander Marshal Foch called the armistice which was an agreement to stop fighting.
Germany began to get close to their mission of getting to Paris but their forces weakened and the allies had support from the United States troops and tanks.
A German submarine sunk a passenger boat because it supposedly had ammunition on board. 1,198 people died including 128 U.S citizens. Woodrow Wilson protested against this and then Germany decided to not attack passenger or neutral ships.
