East Germans began gathering at the wall, demanding that border guards immediately open its gates. The surprised and guards made many phone calls to their superiors about the problem, but no one among the East German authorities would take personal responsibility for orders to use lethal force, so the soldiers had no way to hold back the huge crowd of East German citizens. In face of the growing crowd, the guards finally yielded, opening the checkpoints and allowing people through with little or no identity checking.

The fall of the Soviet Union began to happen when Mikhail Gorbachev came to power. It happened shortly before midnight on March 11, 1985. The Central Committee announced that Mikhail Gorbachev would take place for Konstantin Chernenko, who had been dead for four hours.

Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps by humans on another planetary body were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969. The astronauts also returned to Earth the first samples from another planetary body.

JFK was killed driving down the street in his car. He and Conolly were sitting on the right side of the car and JFK was in the back and Conolly was in the front. The so called killer Harvey first shot missed JFK the second hit him in the neck and hit Conolly in the right shoulder. The next blew off JFK head. After the shooting Harvey killed a cop and was later charged with killing JFK. Then Harvey was assassitnated.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. In 1962, the Soviet Union was behind the United States in the arms race. Soviet missiles were only powerful enough to be launched against Europe but U.S. missiles were capable of striking the entire Soviet Union. In April 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev conceived the idea of placing intermediate range missiles in Cuba. A deployment in Cuba would double the Soviet stratgey and provide a real deterrent to a potential U.S. attack against the Soviet Union.

Warsaw Pact was a similar treaty made by the Western Allies in 1949 as well as the remilitarization of West Germany in 1954, which had a threat to the Eastern countries. The Warsaw Treaty was based on equality of each nation and mutual agreement of eachothers decisions.

A ceasefire stopped the fighting on July 27, 1953. There was an armistice signed by North Korea, China and the UN but not South Korea. Korea is still split into North Korea, which is communist, and South Korea which is non communist. The border, protected by a demilitarized zone, was established along the 38th parallel.

World war 2 divided Korea into communist. The Korean War began in 1950, Korea was been split into North Korea and South Korea two years earlier. In North Korea, there was a communist government, and in South Korea there was a democratic government. Each wanted to have Korea follow there way of government.

The Yalta Conference was held towards the end of World War II. The Yalta Conference was held in a town called Yalta on February 4th-11th in 1945. The Big Three met there to decide the post war in Europe. The United States was represented by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Great Britain was represented by Winston Churchill, and Josef Stalin was there for the Soviet Union. The goal of this conference was to discuss many promblems of the time.
