A vicious tsunami, made by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded, slammed Japan's eastern coast on Friday, Taking hundreds of lives, sweeping boats, cars, and homes out of it's wa while widespread fire burned out of control. Police found 200-300 bodies washed up on the shores of Sendai. Another 88 were confirmed killed and at least 349 were missing. The death toll was likely to increase given the situation.
Tropical Storm Etau's rains brought death, landslides and floods, inundating homes and businesses in Western Japan. 14 deaths were reported within the day it came. 12 deaths were reported in Hyogo Prefecture, in the town of Sayo. Two other people were reported missing in Tokushimi on the southwestern island of Shikoku.
Train services and flights in the Tokyo region were cancelled and more than 80,000 houses left without power. One man died after being hit by a tree. Rescuers were in search of homeless people that were thought to be washed away to the sea. About 50 people were injured.
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has hit Japan, injuring at least 40 people. The injuries were largely made by the collapse of the roof of a swimming pool in Sendai city, Miyagi prefecture. Initial reports suggested at least 80 people had been wounded.
Commonly referred to as the Kobe earthquake, was one of the most devastating earthquakes to hit Japan. Over 5,500 were killed and 26,000 injured. The economic loss is estimated at $200 Billion U.S.
A department store called Taiyo Department Store, located in kumamoto City, Japan, caught fire at 1:15 pm. 103 people died in the fire. Due to this fire, regulations concerning building constructions were strengthened.
Typhoon Ide-wan, or Typhoon Vera, got its name for doing much damage to Ide Bay in Wakayama Prefecture on Sept. 26. It killed 5,098 people and left nearly 39,000 people injured, while 40,000 houses and buildings were destroyed. The deadliest typhoon that hit Japan.
A disastrous train fire occurs when a MOHA-63 train touched a sagging overhead wire leading it to spark to a fire. This accident led to he deaths of 106 passengers and injuring 92 passengers trapped in the railcars. The operator deactivated the pantograph, locking all the doors, and the windows did not permit evacuation.
This earthquake in Nonkaido, killed 1362 people. More than 2600 people were injured and 100 missing. Over 36,000 houses destroyed or severely damaged in southern Honshu and on Shikoku. An additional 2,100 houses were washed away by a tsunami.
The earhquake ruined several hundred thousand buildings and homes, the fires that came after caused more damage. In this earthquake, more than one hundred and forty thousand people were killed. The heat of the fires were so bad that it caused tornado-like winds. One large group of people that were in a shallow lake around Asakusa of Tokyo died when the fierce winds and fires sucked all the oxygen out of the air around them.
