Due to tension between Israel and Egypt in the Middle East, Nixon had Kissinger travel back and forth from each capital, trying to ease tension. Nixon was worried about losing Arab oil, but also had ties to Israel. This visit led to little gains for the U.S. and even precipitated the Oil Crisis in 1970.
After Chile's Marxist president, Allende, nationalized American-owned mining companies, America funneled money to anti-Allende military officials. This ended up with general Augusto Pinochet overthrowwing Allende in a coup.
Nixon ended the United States invovement in Vietnam. The United States ended all military involvement in Vietnam and stopped the fighting between the north and south.

Nixon travels to Soviet Russia as part of his detente policy. Here Nixon signed the SALT I Treaty with Russia to limit the creation of ICBM's. Also Russia guarenteed Western countries access to West Berlin, inreturn for East Berlin to be officially recognized.

President Nixon visits Communist China for the first time. This marks the first time a United States president has stepped foot in a Communist country. Nixon did this as part of his detente policy, which aimed at releiving Cold War tensions.
The U.S. table tennis team was invited by China to visit and play aganst their team. This visit paved the way for Nixon's visit to China.
Nixon decides to invade Cambodia in order to clear out any North Vietnamese. Following this 1.5 million students protested, closing down nearly 1200 campuses. one of the worst places of protest happened at Kent State were 4 students were killed after rioting at a ROTC center.

Nixon announced ina press conference a new approach to interaction with allies. Nixon' new policy would let America's allies take care of them selves, but the U.S, would help if asked.
