Workers in Japan are struggling to restore power to the reactors hoping it is going to help. The radiation levels are so strong however, that they keep having to leave. The biggest danger are the spent fuel rods. They are hoping there efforts to restore power will pay off, they said it should be done by tonight or early Saturday morning.
the current nuclear explosion occurred because of the strong earthquake that hit March 10th 2011, shaking the nuclear plant causing the reactors to crack and leak radioactive waste.
There was an earthquake by Niigata that got a rate of 6.8. This lead to fires and radiation leaks in the nuclear plants. Later they learned the plant was built on a "active sesmic fault". The plant was shutdown for 21 months.
A nuclear plant spilled uranium and radio active mess into the air. This occured because apparently some workers put a little too much uranium in some mixture. Two workers died from this incident. It took 16 brave workers to try and contain the reaction.
The second atom bomb was dropped by the U.S demolishing about half the city. There were about 70,000 instant deaths and about 75,000 injuries. All the water and air was polluted, agriculture was severely damaged. All plants and animals within a half of a mile died instantly, in the second half of the mile died slowly. Women who were pregnant at the time of the bombing gave birth to disformed children. They were smaller and less intelligent then the average, and they were at a high risk for having cancer. This took place in both Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The United Stated dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima during WWII. In the first 2-4 months 90-166 thousand people died. In the next five years, another 70,000 people or more died from the effects of radiation.
