The library will open at 11 am with a ribbon cutting ceremony! Events include Joe McDermott, Linh Son Temple Dance Group, Storyteller Esther Lopez and her String Puppets, library clubs, history groups, teen gaming and more!

The Library be closed January 13 - 18th. During that time the library will move into the new wing. Renovations to the old wing will be complete in Spring of 2013 when the entire expanded space will open to the public!

The City Council has notified Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. to commence work in the accordance with the agreement.
The City Council has authorized the City Manager to enter into negotiations.

Architects, Engineers and City Staff consider landscaping and other site details.

Third and final summary workshop held the evening of September 16. Work continues on furnishings and finishes.
Members of the Library staff work with Vitetta architects and consultants to further refine the design of new facilities. Community residents attend the second summary workshop that evening.
Stakeholder groups discuss site plan and building layout possibilities with Vitetta Group architects and consultants. Input from Public Focus Group meetings and data gathered by City and Library staff are used to create a formal building program which serves to guide the process.
Announcement of Public Focus Group meetings is made City-wide, encouraging community residents to meet and discuss ideas for library expansion. Meetings are held the evening of April 28, as well as in the morning and afternoon on May 1.
After gathering statistical and demographic data on the Library and Pflugerville community, Library staff meet with Providence Associates, library building consultants for the Vitetta Group, to discuss service and programming needs on April 26-28.
City staff, architectural design team members, consultants and engineers meet to launch the project. The expansion is to be constructed on City-owned property west and adjacent to the current facility.
City Council approves the selection of Vitetta Group for design of expanded library facilities.

Architectural design teams make presentations on the proposed expansion project. Vitetta Group is selected from a field of 25 firms who responded to the request for Statements of Qualifications.
About 75 individuals representing architectural and construction firms attend a meeting held for interested parties.
Announcement of the project is made. The release includes a description of the proposed project, as well as criteria on which qualified firms' responses will be evaluated.
Voters approve a $7M bond proposal for expanded library facilities.
At a special meeting held Saturday, March 8th, members of Council confirm there will be a May bond election.
In anticipation of future capital improvement projects, the City Council calls a bond committee. Beginning in January 2007, the group holds numerous meetings and discussions, and presents recommendations to Council in August. Among them is a proposal for library expansion.
Following a successful $1.5M bond election in 1996, construction begins and doors open on a new 12,500 square foot building in February 1999. Rapidly expanding community growth and increased demand for Library services underscore the need for expanded library facilities in subsequent years.

With a new library as a goal, Friends of the Pflugerville Community Library purchase land at 102 Tenth Street in 1990, gifting the Library to the City in 1992. The Library becomes a City department, and in 1994 the Council forms a Library Advisory Board.

Quickly outgrowing their space, the Library moves to a small house at 102 South Third Street, where it remains until 1999. Friends pay a nominal rent of $1.00 a month to the City for use of the building, and raise funds for the Library in many ways, including operation of a Thrift Shop at Fifth & Pecan Streets.

Loss of bookmobile services provided by Travis County though the Austin Public Library prompts a group of local residents to establish library services "on their own." Friends of the Pflugerville Community Library organize in 1981, and open a one-room storefront library on Railroad Street, behind the First State Bank building in downtown Pflugerville.
