U.S. financial aided the Greek government and its military assistance helped force the ELAS back to the north. Communist party split ended Yugoslavian support. Yugoslavia disagreed with the Soviet Union on certain issues, dividing Communists into supporters of Tito and supporters of Stalin. The Greek Communist Party came to support Stalin and subsequently, Yugoslavia ended its support of the Greek rebels in July 1948. They ended up supporting the communist party and splitting up with Yugoslavia. This was not a good thing because the communist were going to take over.
After the defeat of colonial France in 1952 the North Vietnamese tried to do something similar to the North Koreans by wanting to unite all of Vietnam under communism. With a theory that SE Asia might fall like dominos, US military advisors were sent to South Vietnam to help contain the spread of communism. The containment policy became actual fighting in 1965. France was defeated in 1954, and Korea was trying to take and put it under Communist government. The US seeing and realizing steped in and decided to try to prevent that from happening.
The peace negotiations took a turn when there was a change of leadership for both sides. In January of 1951, President Dwight Eisenhower took office. Two months later, Josef Stalin died. Within a week after the new negotiations, the first exchange of prisoners occurred. On June 28th an estimate 25,000 Korean and Chinese prisoners were allowed to escape by their South Korean jailers. It was a bad thing that prison and still be able to fight for communism.
The KGB was the security agency of the Soviet Union government which was involved in nearly all aspects of life in the Soviet Union since March 1952. Yet its roots stretch back to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 when the newly-formed Communist government organized Cheka, a Russian acronym for "All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution and Sabotage." After many alterations, the Soviet Union arranged its security agency as the KGB. KGB was a sucessful security system for the Soviet Union and way before the soviet union. This was great way for the communist to suceed with th
On July 27th an armistice was signed, and the Korean War came to an end. The UN forces had suffered more than 94,000 dead, About 55,000 of those were American. Approximately 1 million South Koreans and 2 million North Koreans died. Neither side could claim victory. The United States had ended an communist government over Korea. It was an horrible war, but it was good that peace was eventually found without a communist government party starting.
Stalin died in 1951 and Nikita Khrushchev came to power. Khrushchev wanted to exspand communism into Cuba. After talks with Khrushchev, Fidel Castro allied Cuba with the Soviets. The US sponsored money for an invasion force of Cuban army in an attempt to overthrow Castro. Those american soilders were unsucessful in their attemp to over throw Castro. Americans were brought back ito the US, but soon the Soviets missles were brought into Cuba. Communism was able to get into Cuba because the US soilders were not able sucessfully destroy Castros army. To me it was a win some and loss some US couldnt stand up to Castros army.
In August 1949 the Soviets tested their first atomic bomb. In doing so they showed that their weaponry was on par with the United States. In June 1950, North Korea was supplied heavily by the Soviets launched a massive attack on South Korea. The reason behind this attack was that North Korea wanted to united the whole of Korea under communism. The United Nations wanted to turn the whole Korea under communist government. North korea was threatened by chinese army that if they were to invade South Korea they would defend them in the battle. North Korea still invaded, and defeated the chinese army. In South Korea quest to take power of Korea as a whole was a successful one by defeating china but signed a armistice, and a solution was found which led to ending the war.

NATO was officially established on April 4, 1949 with the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty. The Western European powers relied on the massive nuclear arsenal of the United States to provide a Soviet ground invasion. Eventually NATO technology rendered the power of Soviet Union’s ground forces. After the fall of communism the need for a military alliances diminished and NATO was transformed from a military force to a political force. This created a way for communist to be caputred and handled quickly, and better. It helped the US invade places faster and without loosing alot of men. To me its a plus to the US and courtries that wanted to avoid communism.
During German occupation of Greece, much of the resistance consisted of the Communist National Liberation Front EAM and its military, the People's National Army of Liberation ELAS. The Germans left Greece in September 1944 and Great Britain brought the former government of Greece, along with the now included EAM, back into power. Some of those in the ELAS, however, would not cooperate with the British supported government and threatened to take control of Greece. When Great Britain suggested disarming the ELAS, a general strike in Athens was declared by Communists on December 2, 1944. The next day, police and the ELAS came into conflict with each other. After Winston Churchill visited, a treaty was signed and ELAS guerrillas withdrew from Athens. An agreement was reached on February 12, 1945 which called for the the ELAS to turn in its weapons within fourteen days. It was good that they were able to come to an agreement and without alot having to happen within the time they were going threw a conflict.
In 1945 The Yalta Conference was held on February 4th-11th in 1945. The three allies decided an conclusion of post-war Europe. The United States was represented by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Great Britain was represented by Winston Churchill, and Josef Stalin was there on the Soviet Union’s behalf. The goal of this conference was to discuss many aspects of the time. How they were going to divide germany into parts. The most important part is this conference were how they were going to decide the future fate of Poland. They decided that Germany should gave to pay 20 billion dollars for reperations of war. Britain didnt want any reperations because they felt like thats what led to the rise of Hitler. I believe this was important because this was creating a world of peace and democracy not dictatorship.
