The height of the Ukrainian Genocide, also known as the Holodomor. The Soviet government increases Ukraine's production quote by 44%. As these could not be met, starvation is widespread. Arrest or execution of a peasent found taking any food is permitted, and the borders of Ukraine are monitered to make sure nobody leaves to get food from surrounding countries. When Ukrainians refuse to join the collective farms, Stalin acusses them of middle class nationalism. In 1930, about one million Ukraines are taken from their homes and shipped to Siberia, without food or shelter. Many died here. http://www.holodomorct.org/history.html
