The Church split into Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox. The East was not happy with Charlemagne because they didn't think it was fair that the West got to crown him. In 1814, the West crumbled but the East lasted until 1453.
Charlemagne died and was buried in his own cathedral at Aachen. He was over two meters tall. After he died, his only son (named Louis the Pouis) took the crown. Charlemagne had a bad attitude towards his daughters. They were forced to enter convents.
Charlemagne is the son of Pepin the Short. The kingdom was divided between Charlemagne and Carloman after the death of their father. When Carloman died Charlemagne took over the whole of Europe, then he was crowned Emperor.
Reasons why it fell:
-Financial Problems : People never payed taxes
-Barbarians: They came and attacked Rome
-Christianity: Christians took power away from the emperor and too many churches were built.
- Natural Causes: Rats, lead, fleas, and mosquitos
-Decay: The empire was too big to control properly
