• Battle of Palmito Ranch
  May 13, 1865

  The Confederate fought against the Union's infantry. They won the battle, but the Civil War ended a month ago.

• Battle of Appomattox Court House
  Apr 9, 1865

  General Lee was retreating west, hoping to join troops in North Carolina, but got stopped at Appmattox Court House. The cavalry had troops support and he was surrounded. This ended the Civil War

• Red River Campaign
  May 15, 1864

  The North hoped to surround and conquer Northeast TX and the South were growing desperate by this time. Led by General Richard Taylor, the South lead an offensive attack of 9,000 men & pushed the Union out of Texas for good!

• The Gettysburg Address
  Nov 19, 1863

  Abraham Lincoln gave a powerful speech on Nov. 19, 1863. It dedicated the men that fought and the land on which many men suffered and died.

• Battle at Sabine Pass
  Sep 8, 1863

  The Union's goal was to seize Houston & Beaumont. On September 8, 1863 5,000 Union troops held back and the South had an amazing victory.

• Battle of Gettysburg
  Jun 30, 1863

  General Lee's hope was to invade the North & he wanted Northern politians to give up the fighting against the South. The battle had between 46,000 & 51,000 Americans dead/wounded. Also, another victory for the Union.

• Siege of Vicksburg
  May 18, 1863

  The South surrendered because of no supplies, re-enforcement, & holding out more than 40 days! The North gained control of the Mississippi River & cut off Confederate communication.

• Emancipation Proclamation
  Jan 1, 1863

  The Emacipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863 and it freed all slaves that lived in the South. It did NOT end slavery, the 13th Amendent did.

• Battle of Galveston
  Jan 1, 1863

  The Union tryed to block Southern ports to prevent trade & control seaports. But on January 1, 1863 General Magruder defeated the Union & kept Galveston under Confederate power.

• Battle of Fort Sumter
  Apr 12, 1861

  Four states seceded leading up that the Civil War begun. President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers.

• Texas Secession Convention
  Mar 4, 1861

  After the election of Abraham Lincoln, 4 states seceded. Texas called for a convention to become apart of the Confederate. It rewrote it's constitution to CSA (Confederate States of America)
