Additional notes: Although the government plans to put new passports into circulation in 2009, as for June 2009, there are no new information about the progress of the initiative. The last announcement comes from August 2008 and says about plans to launch contracts on components needed to produce new documents and on a hardware and software to introduce biometric passports. The Ministry of Interior and the Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of Morocco, which manage the initiative, never informed about the result of these contracts.
