• Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated
  1965

  Dr. King, the leader of the Civil Rights Movement was killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN. This is an image of the hotel. King was standing on the balcony near where the wreath is shown.

• Voting Rights Act of 1965
  1965

  The Voting Rights Act, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson outlawed discrimination in voting practices that had been geared towards African-Americans. This image shows Dr. King, and President Johnson at the signing of the Voting Rights Actt.

• March on Washington
  1963

  The March on Washington was a large political rally in support of civil and economic rights for African-Americans that took place in D.C.

• Motgomery Bus Boycott
  1955 to 1956

• Brown vs. Board of Education Decision
  1954

  The Supreme Court decided that Linda Brown should be allowed to go to an all-white school. The ruled that segregation was unlawful.
