• Anti-lock Braking System
  1978

  Bosch develops the first completely electronic 4-wheel ABS for cars, Bosch worked with car manufacturer Daimler-Benz Initially ABS were used on airplanes and became very popular for automobiles.

• Clean Air Act
  1963

  The Clean Air Act of 1963 was the first federal legislation regarding air pollution control. It established a federal program within the U.S. Public Health Service and authorized research into techniques for monitoring and controlling air pollution.

• Volvo three-point belt
  Aug 13, 1959

  Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin invented the three-point seat belt. Several cars already had a two-point belt but they were not effective in keeping passengers safe.

  1953

  Hetrick, a retired industrial engineering technician, received a patent in 1953 for what he called a "safety cushion assembly for automotive vehicles." His U.S. Patent No. 2,649,311 was the first prototype for today's modern airbags.
