Jul 1, 1961On the night of July 2nd, 1961, Hemingway committed suicide in the town of Ketchum, Idaho. His death was the result of a self inflicted shotgun blast to the head.

1954The Nobel Prize for literature of 1954 was awarded to Hemingway. This award was also given to him partly for his novel Old Man and the Sea.

1953Ernest Hemingway was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1953. He won the Pulitzer because of his work on his novel The Old man and the Sea.
