Chasing Lincoln's Killer has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
After rapid convictions the defendants Mary Surratt, David Herold, George Atzerodt, and Lewis Powell were hung
The men of the 16th New York Cavalry arrive at the Garrett farm on the morning of April 26 and find Herold and Booth hiding in the barn. Herold exits the barn declaring his innocence. Booth remains inside, ignoring the threat to burn the barn if he does not surrender. The barn is started on fire and Booth is shot by Boston Corbett in the neck and eventually dies.
Booth and Herold finally reached Virginia, by crossing the Potomac River. After traveling in the wrong direction the previous days they met up with Mrs. Queensberry who arranged for horses and food.
Several witness stated the shooter to be John Wilkes Booth. Secretary of War Edwin Stant requested the best detectives from New York City to assist in the investigation.
While watching a play at the Ford's Theatre, President Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth
