Gianlorenzo Bernini sculpted "St. Teresa of Avila in Ectasy", for cardinal Federigo Cornaro's funerary chapel. The statue is located in the Church of Santa Maria della Victoria, and depicts a scene from the vision of the Spanish. Bernini sculpted the marble with fine lines and visible textures, making the details of the vision of St. Teresa realistic like. Works Consulted- Stockstad, Marilyn, and Michael W Cothren. Francesco Borromini was commisioned by Trinitarian monks in 1634 to design the San Carlo Alle Quattro Fontane Church. The design of the church was influenced by the Pope Sixus V who influenced planners of the city to put fountains along the street corners where the church is located. Borromini designed the interior of the church as a central plan that had been elongated, and included the fountains within his design (which is partly how the church's name came about). Pope Urban Vlll's family (the Barberini Family) commissioned Pietro da Cortona to come to their palace to decorate the audience hall's ceiling. Carlo Maderno was born in 1556 and passed away on Jan. 30, 1629. During Maderno's career he was considered the Vatican Architect, and was replaced by Gianlorenzo Bernini whom had previous experiences working with Maderno. Gianlorenzo Bernini was commissioned by Pope Urban Vlll in 1623 to design a baldachin for St. Peter’s Church located in Vatican, Rome. The "Baldacchino" is a canopy that is centered over the altar, which is made of bronze and is nearly 100 feet tall. The Baroque aspects that the canopy contains are the combination of techniques such as painting, sculpture, and architecture. Bernini completed the "Baldacchino" in 1633. Artemisia Gentileschi was an Italian painter who joined her father's shop at the age of 17. A follower of Carvaggio, Gentileschi captured a biblical scene from the Book of Daniel. Carvaggio was commissioned by the Contarelli Chapel in February 1602 to paint a piece that would be placed over the altar. The painting needed to depict St. Matthew and his writing of the Gospel and to include the angelic symbol.Carvaggio painting was finished within 3 months, but was rejected by the Council of Trent because the painting of the Saint did not coordinate with the guidelines set by the council. During the 17th century Italy didn't have a single ruler, although Roman Catholic Church followers and supporters retained power among the arts. Italy consisted of principalities to the north, the Papal States which were situated in the central part of Italy, Venice which remained independent, while the Spanish had control over the Kingdom of Sicily and Naples. Cardinal Odoardo Farnese commissioned Annibale Carracci to decorate the families palace for the marriage of the neice of the pope and Ranuccio Farnese. Annibale and his brother Agostino helped complete the Ovid Metamorphoses scenes that was requested by the Farnese.
