A timeline over the first 16 American Presidents

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president and was the first Republican president. He became the president of the Union after the Southern States seceded.
After the Southern States seceded from America they became the Confederacy and the Northern States became the Union and we fought in an epic 4-year battle to the death.
James Buchanan was Democrat from Pennsylvania and never married and because of that his niece acted as the First Lady hosting events at the White House.
A slave from Missouri, Dred Scott, asked for his freedom because he was being forced to be a slave under the Missouri Compromise. The Supreme Court said that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional and Dred Scott.
Franklin Pierce was from New Hampshire and was a Democrat. He was suffering from depression because all three of his children died and he only had hi wife left.
The Gadsden Purchase was a piece of land that we bought from Mexico for $10 million dollars. We bought that piece of land because we wanted to construct a railroad right there.
As a result of Taylor's death, his vice president, Millard Fillmore took over after 1 year. Fillmore was also a Whig and Despised Andrew Jackson and the rest of the Democrats. He served for three years.
Henry Clay put together his last compromise before is death in 1852. This compromise was again to prevent a war for starting over slavery. This compromise appealed to both Northern and Southern States.
Zachary Taylor was the 12th president and died after about one year in office. He was a war hero in the Mexican War. He was a Whig and despised Andrew Jackson and the rest of the Democrats.
Gold is discovered in California in 1848. As a result of that, Americans start to migrate to California via the Oregon Trail. However, Americans didn't start to migrate until 1849.
Polk had sent John Slidell to Mexico to offer $25 million dollars for the Mexican Cession. Mexican President Santa Ana was outraged with this offer and attacked Zachary Taylor's troops and Congress declared war on Mexico. In the end, we won and got the Mexican Cession for $15 million dollars.
James K. Polk was born in Tennessee and was Democrat. He gained most of the land in the west that we have today.
Oregon trail was founded to transport pioneers safely west and had two forks. One going to California and one going to Oregon country.
John Tyler served out the rest of the Harrison's term because he died after 1 month. He was a Whig like Harrison and was from Virginia and was born in 1790.
William Henry Harrison was elected as the 9th president but died in office after 1 month. He died of Pneumonia because of his really long inaugural speech.
Because Jackson tried to destroy the Bank of America, the banks shut down. So people started to panic because they were losing their money.
Martin Van Buren was personally chosen by Andrew Jackson because he was Jackson's vice president. He was also a democrat. He was blamed for the economic crisis that was actually caused by Andrew Jackson.
Texas was territory of the country Mexico. Americans had moved to Mexico to found big plantations, but declared independence because Mexican government outlawed slavery and American immigration.
Andrew Jackson was from Tennessee and lived in a house called Hermitage. Jackson was also the first Democrat president. He also participated in many pistol duels. Before his presidency, he was a military officer. Jackson also had the nickname Old Hickory because he was tough and stubborn.
The canals were built to increase shipping rate across the nation. The First one was from Ohio to Chesapeake Bay. However, by the time they were finished, they were useless because Steam-powered trains had already taken over the shipping of goods and the transportation of the passengers of America.
John Quincy Adams was the son of Former president John Adams. He was also from Virginia. In his election, no one person won enough of the majority of the electoral votes, so the decision was given to the House of Representatives where he was elected as our 6th president.
The Santa Fe Trail is a trade route from Independence, Missouri to Santa Fe, Mexico. It is 780 miles long and there was only one fort along the way to stop and restock your supplies which was Bent's Fort.
Monroe was from Virginia and lived in his house called Ash Lawn. Preceding his presidency, he was a Revolutionary War officer, Senator, Governor of Virginia, Seceratary of State, and Minister in France, Great Britain, and Spain.

James Madison was born Virginia and his house called Montepeiler. He was a delegate in both the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention. He also wrote the Constitution.

Thomas Jefferson lived in Virginia, in a house called Monticello. He was the father of the Constitution and was in the first and second Continental Congresses. He was also the first Secretary of State.
The Father of our nation, George Washinton, dies of a throat infection after he was exposed to a sleet storm. He caught a cold and died on December 14th, 1799.
Adams was born in Massachusetts and he named his house Braintree. He was Washington's vice president and the first Federalist president
In these three years, the next three states were added to the U.S. They were Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Vermont was added in 1791, Kentucky in 1792, and Tennessee in 1796.
George Washington was born in Virginia and lived in Mount Vernon. George was very engaged in America's beginning before his presidency. For instance, he was the Commander of the Army and a delegate in the First and Second Continental Congress.
