LA Times Show Tracker covered the conference calls with Comfort Fedoke and Will Wingfield. The Sydney Morning Herald adds some depth to our understanding of Nigel Lythgoe:"Since I've been [in America] I've had a heart attack, I've lost the back of my heart, I've had peritonitis, I've lost 15 feet [4.6metres] of my intestine, my marriage has broken up and I've lost my wife," he says. "And the gag now is, I miss my intestine." (Jokes aside, he says he is on good terms with estranged wife Bonnie and thinks she did an excellent job as a judge on the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance.)More...Scott Patrick Wagner wonders about the door slam sounds in Katee & Twitch's contemporary routine:I had only heard the song used, “Mercy” by Duffy, in passing, and wasn’t familiar with the strong “slamming” percussive that ended those phrases. But I imagined that Mia let her imagination run wild with them, and they were perhaps the inspiration for the number. (Most of my own choreography has been to prerecorded pop music, and the arrangement can become a jumping-off point, if not a roadmap.)I’ve had a chance to listen to the whole tune, and –somebody please correct me immediately if I’m wrong — but those door-slam percussives aren’t actually IN the song, at least not as it was recorded and released by the artist. To me, that just opens up a big ol’ can of worms. It has gone from feeling like inventiveness and resourcefulness to being, frankly, a cheat. So You Think You Can Dance season 4 has just begun airing in Australia. We've received a couple of questions regarding the auditions that we don't know, so we'll crowd-source them. Can someone tell me if there is a Face Book group for Brandon Bryant - he was just on in Australia and I found out by accident that he didn't get kept in the show, now that is depressing. WOW Wow WOwWe've received 2 questions about the music used for auditions on the Aussie airings. Here's one:Hi there, came across you blog today and was wondering if you can help me with a music query? During the auditions, Courtney Galiano during her audition, performed to a song, that in America was the music by an artist called Anouk. However in Australia, when that audition was performed, it appears to be a different artist, and I can't find who that artist is. It appears that the music has been changed for Australian audiences for some reason. I noted all the words to the song and they go like this... ...yesterday I knew wonder, felt the lightning hurt then knew and I knew that it was going down so I gathered all our belongings, took the lying ... and thats all that was played. It appeard to be a solo female piano player, playing to a hauntingly beautiful piece which I am now trying to track and am hoping you can help. Here's one for a different audition:I have a question I am desperate to find the answer to. I have searched and tried everywhere. I'm hoping you might know..What was the song that Devin Oshiro danced to in her audition? They aired two different songs from the US to the Australian one(don't know why). I'm not sure which is the original song she danced to but I know one song was Missy Higgins and that's not the one I'm after. The other song was a guy singing and the lyrics are something like "Wherever you are is where i'll be...wherever you are is where i'll go..". Not all that helpful I know. But if you do know that would be amazing. Thank you!!I gave up Facebook a while back because of the "applications", so I can't search for Brandon Bryant, and we can't find anything about the different songs used. Can anyone out there provide an answer?

FOX/Kelsey McNealI'm formatting things a bit differently in an effort to get this post up before the weekend starts. So last night was surprising for most. I wasn't surprised. Not at this point in the game. Anything goes. Some people even go twice. Chuck Maldonado’s Top 8 RoutineIt’s nice to see a new choreographer. Different points of view are always appreciated. Their make-up reminded me of Mia’s The Moment I Said It routine from last year. I think that this choreography stood up a bit better to the SYTYCD stage than some routines have in the past. The choppy camera cuts are back in full force. Universal Mind Control (UMC) – CommonMore after the jump...Pas de Deux performed by Eddy Tovar and Aubrey MorganWhen I heard Pas de Deux last week, this is what I thought they meant. Obviously I was wrong. As far as Pas de Deux’s go, I wasn’t crazy about this one. Although, I am impressed with SYTYCD’s openness this year to different dance Exposing us to all dance. Much like Ted does. The Man I Love – From the ballet Who Cares?Comfort’s SoloYou can’t hate Comfort for her positive attitude. It’s endearing. And she danced hard tonight. Like This – MimsWill’s SoloHis movement is different every single time. Did you ever notice that certain dancers have certain moves that they do each time they dance on that stage? Will changes it up every time. The little Bollywood-infusion was wonderful. I may not have loved Will, but he brought a diversity to the show that will probably go unmatched.Closer – GoapeleCourtney’s SoloShe went back to her manic movement tonight. The song was intense, so I can see why that happened. But uh, she needs to tone it down a bit.Passion – Kreesha TurnerTwitch’s SoloTwitch’s routine was interesting. Nothing really stuck out in my mind. I just like how he moves.Hollywood Swinging – Kool & the GangLL Cool J’s performanceUm, I was less than inspired by this. But looking at LL for 4 or 5 minutes is never a hardship.LL Cool J feat. The DreamComfort’s Montage Song (again)I wish Fox would find some different artists. As much as I love OneRepublic and appreciate the exposure for them, there are tons of wonderful artists out there that could use the leg up.Come Home – OneRepublicWill’s Montage SongI expected Twitch's name to come out of Cat's mouth, but I wasn't surprised when it was Will's. The audience is smarter than the judges give it credit for. Pimping a contestant will get you no where. People forget to vote for them or they prefer the underdog. Fox/Kelsey McNealSorry that I’m so late posting this. There are no excuses. Boo on me. Courtney and Will’s Samba choreographed by Jean Marc & FranceI think that she kept up well with him in the routine. I couldn’t help but love this song. Maybe I missed some of their mistakes because I liked to song so much.Song title: I Fell In Love With The DJArtist/Band: Che’ NelleWhere you’ve heard the song before: It’s been popular all over the world. It hit #98 on the Billboards in the US, but that’s about it.Where you can listen to the whole song: More after the jump...Comfort’s SoloComfort should ask NapTab to choreograph her solo.Song title: I Got This DownArtist/Band: Simian Mobile DiscoWhere you’ve heard the song before: I can’t find much on this song. But Simian Mobile Disco has a song on FIFA ’08, I Believe.Where you can listen to the whole song: Katee and Twitch’s Contemporary routine choreographed by Mia MichaelsAll I could think of when I heard this song was McSteamy and Callie. And then I thought about Mia and her recent break up. Then there was the tonsil hockey. I blushed a little. It was hard to concentrate on the actual dancing. The stuff I could pay attention to, I loved.Song title: MercyArtist/Band: DuffyWhere you’ve heard the song before: Grey’s Anatomy. The Sex & the City Soundtrack. Oh, and it won the Song of the Year award at the MOJO Awards.Where you can listen to the whole song: Will’s SoloI think that I may stand alone in this, but I wasn’t a fan. I thought it was fun, but that’s about it.Song title: Get Up Offa That ThingArtist/Band: James BrownWhere you’ve heard the song before: This song has been all over some of our favorite shows. Benji and Heidi did a routine to this song. Gev auditioned to this song and Super Cr3w used this in one of their “Master Mixes”. It was also in Sister Act II, What a Girl Wants, Robots, and Harriet the Spy.Where you can listen to the whole song: Comfort and Mark’s Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon and TabithaThis is the first “fast” routine that I liked from NapTab. You can’t go wrong with some Fergie Ferg and Nelly. Also, I forget who mentioned it last week, but Mark is taller than I remember.Song title: Party PeopleArtist/Band: Nelly feat. Fergie (Fox got it backwards)Where you’ve heard the song before: Another Top 40 song. So it’s all over.Where you can listen to the whole song: Katee’s SoloI’m a huge Katee fan, but her solo was kinda boring for me tonight. Plus, if I have to hear one more Celine song, I might go crazy. Oh, but I did love that Katee just did a no-frills leap. It took me by surprise and I didn’t hate it.Song title: Taking ChancesArtist/Band: Celine DionWhere you’ve heard the song before: It was written by Kara DioGuardi and David A. Stewart. Celine made it famous. Featured on DanceLife and Moonlight. And Celine performed it on The X Factor.Where you can listen to the whole song: Chelsie and Joshua’s Argentine Tango choreographed by DmitryI really liked how the beginning started. Slower. Little piano mixed in. And then it built up with the lights. I also liked when Josh moved Chelsie’s feet with the music. When you think back to season 2’s caliber of Argentine Tangos, this is miles away from that. How far we’ve come.Song title: A Los AmigosArtist/Band: Forever Tango (Original Cast)Where you’ve heard the song before: So I couldn’t find the Forever Tango version. In MP3 format. You can buy it on iTunes though.Where you can listen to the whole song: Mark’s SoloThis is his first solo, I think, that he didn’t use Bohemian Rhapsody, and I really enjoyed it. He picked another off-beat song and it served his choreography well.Song title: CreatorArtist/Band: Santogold feat. Switch & Freq NastyWhere you’ve heard the song before: It was on Grey’s Anatomy. I think that Fox is finally catching on and just watching other shows and finding artists that are tv-friendly.Where you can listen to the whole song: Courtney and Will’s Slow Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon and TabithaI love Alicia Keyes. I love slow hip hop. I may be in the minority here, but I was not crazy about this routine. It had some nice moments: when Courtney was looking at the pictures and Will was replicating her movement behind her and when they were both kneeling and Will brought her in to him. But overall, I was less than thrilled with it. Nice song and concept though.Song title: Like You’ll Never See Me AgainArtist/Band: Alicia KeyesWhere you’ve heard the song before: If you’re a soap fan, you’ll know it was featured on All My Children. I do not watch that show. Surprising. I know.Where you can listen to the whole song: Chelsie’s SoloFor as much crap as I give the PCD, I love Danity Kane. I know. Ha. It doesn’t make sense. I wonder if Chelsie’s birthday was Monday or tonight. I ask stupid questions.Song title: DamagedArtist/Band: Danity KaneWhere you’ve heard the song before: On the Top 9 at 9. Or the Hot 8 at 8. Where you can listen to the whole song: Katee and Twitch’s Broadway routine choreographed by TyceWhen they said the song sped up, they weren’t lying. Tempo change much? I didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it either. It was fun. The song obviously fit perfectly with the choreo.Song title: Sweet Georgia BrownArtist/Band: Bubbling Brown SugarWhere you’ve heard the song before: Check out the long history of this song over at WikipediaWhere you can listen to the whole song: Joshua’s SoloThe last 2-eight counts of his solo were banoodles. Song title: Shawty Get LooseArtist/Band: Lil’ Mama feat. T-Pain & Chris BrownWhere you’ve heard the song before: NapTab choreographed their Vegas week routine to this song.Where you can listen to the whole song: Courtney’s SoloHer solos are definitely more controlled now. Even though I hate how she preps for her pirouettes. I thought her energy matched the music.Song title: Where I StoodArtist/Band: Missy HigginsWhere you’ve heard the song before: You’ve heard it on One Tree Hill. A certain Leyton scene if I remember correctly. And during Devin Oshiro’s audition. After they played the wrong music. Where you can listen to the whole song: Twitch’s SoloThe way Twitch covers the stage is craziness. I don’t really enjoy watching him dance too many different but I could watch this solo from him every day. The song just gave him crazy energy. Song title: Go To WorkArtist/Band: Kay LWhere you’ve heard the song before: I really like this song. But I’ve never heard it before.Where you can listen to the whole song: Comfort and Mark’s Foxtrot choreographed by Jean-Marc & FranceI’m no ballroom expert, but I definitely didn’t hate this as much as the judges did. Also, Brian Setzer has been making quite the appearance on SYTYCD. Now he just has to make his songs more readily available for downloading.Song title: Lady LuckArtist/Band: The Brian Setzer OrchestraWhere you’ve heard the song before: You know the songWhere you can listen to the whole song: So I couldn't find Brian Setzer's version of this song. Slacker. All around.Chelsie and Joshua’s Disco choreographed by Doriana SanchezWho doesn’t love some Gloria Estefan once in awhile? This was the first disco routine that I didn’t end up hating. Maybe it was the song? Maybe it was Chelsie and Joshua? Song title: Everlasting LoveArtist/Band: Gloria EstefanWhere you’ve heard the song before: I know you listen to this everyday. Courtney Galiano & Will Wingfield - Slow Hiphop - Napoleon & TabithaUploaded by mscoder610From a reader:I’m writing this e-mail to comment on Courtney and Will’s dance to Alicia Keys “Like you’ll never see me again.” I was touched to tears with their performance. The reason I was so touched is because my husband passed away on February 18th (1 day before his 48th birthday), he passed away at home and before he passed, our niece brought in this song and played it for me as I laid next to my husband. I listen to this song daily and still I cry. Nigel’s comment on how this dance touches one’s emotions who have lost a loved one was so right. I will forever cry for my husband and mourn him, and we should all take heart to what the words of this song say. Most of us take our love one’s for granted and don’t stop to think that maybe they won’t be here as long as we think. I long for my husband and wish we would have done so much more together in our life, we had so many long term plans and in a matter of 6 days after being diagnosed with brain cancer he was gone from me. I will never be able to hug him, kiss him, hold him or tell him I love him and have him tell me back again. Courtney and Will’s performance was beautiful and I loved it. I watched it through tears and still enjoyed it. I miss my husband terribly, but my memories of him will keep him alive forever. Thank you Courtney and Will and Thank you Choreographers for putting together and performing a dance to this song that will forever be remembered.

Students of Twitch and Katee obviously love their teachers. MyFox LA has video.LA Times talks to Tony Wigens, head of touring for 19 Entertainment, about the SYTYCD season 4 tour:According to Wigens, the of an "American Idol" tour was intuitive from the get-go, but planning a "Dance" tour took more consideration. "It was very much a leap in the dark as well as a leap of faith," recalled Wigens, who is far more accustomed to planning musical concerts than dance shows. The "leap of faith" paid off in the tour's first year, 2006. "I think the thing sold out in a matter of hours," he said. After seeing the tickets snatched up, Wigens assumed that the stadiums would be full of teenagers. Instead, the tour drew fans of all ages. "We were expecting it to be a really young audience, but it really is not," he said. "There's not one specific demographic that we're playing to." First and foremost, Wigens hopes the tour will inspire attendance from people who never would have come to a dance performance otherwise. As for what fans can expect from the tour, Wigens says the live show includes memorable performances from the TV show, interspersed with video footage, among other things. "It's very different," he said. "It's a very, very exciting show."More...Lisa Halpern at Film.com recruits new viewers to our favorite dance show.I didn't know that Mia Michaels is 5'11", or that she had broken up with her boyfriend in April. Mia Michaels Has been heavily criticized lately for comments many deem harsh. Brill Bundy at From Inside The Box gives her a chance to tell her side of the story:"What America doesn't know is the relationship," she explains at the TCA Summer Press Tour, saying that what she brings to the judging table is a choreographer's perspective. "There's a beautiful, beautiful collaboration and very nurturing [atmosphere]. For me especially, I nurture them. I'm Mamma Mia and they look to me for that tough love actually."So, when I say it, American might go, 'Oh my God, that's so harsh.'"[The dancers] are cool with it. They know. I’m lacking in the recap department this week. Bare minimum stuff for the Top 12 Performance Recap. I’ll try to pick it up for tonight’s elimination show. My apologies now! Also, I’m having a hard time reviewing songs anymore. Especially after the Matt Dorame interview. When he says that he wasn’t able to use the music he originally picked and the “music lady” let him listen to Sweet Contentment and he liked it. So he danced to it. Eh. Also, Alex DaSilva likes to pick songs that I have to pay $20 for. Sorry. No dice. Chelsie and Mark’s Salsa choreographed by Alex DaSilvaThe song served its purpose. It gave them a good enough beat to dance to. They gave more to the routine than the song did. Song title: FuegoArtist/Band: Joe BataanWhere you can listen to the whole song: So I go to the website. It tells me that it will cost me $.10 per track. I’m in. I go to pay. That’ll be $19.90 minimum. Huh? Pass.Comfort and Thayne’s hip hop routine choreographed by Napoleon & TabithaI love Ne-Yo. The beginning on the steps was sick. I like how they added in those few extra accents to the music. They did it with Katee and Joshua’s routine and Chelsie and Mark’s as well. I didn’t hate this as much as the judges did. In fact, I kinda liked it.Song title: Can We ChillArtist/Band: Ne-YoWhere you can listen to the whole song: More after the jump...Jessica and Will’s contemporary routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio Leee was right last week. SYTYCD is not a family show. Ha. The song allowed for a lot. Since there wasn’t much there. It allowed them to be organic as Mia likes to say. Which is, I’m sure, why she loved it. If you’ve ever seen Unfaithful, you know why this piece coming out of this song is not surprising. At all.Song title: SilenceArtist/Band: Unfaithful (Soundtrack)Where you can listen to the whole song: Courtney and Gev’s Cha Cha choreographed by ANYA AND PASHA!I was not a Gevney fan. I didn’t get it. Until this routine. Color me converted. The song is insignificant.Song title: Don’t Stop the Music (The Wideboys Club Mix)Artist/Band: RihannaWhere you can listen to the whole song: Kherington and Twitch’s Krump routine choreographed by Lil CI’m sorry judges…what’s that? You’re giving preferential treatment to Kherington again? That’s not like you. She got tired for the last 16 eight counts and you’re just going to disregard that? That’s about right. I can’t talk about the song. Disenchanted is the best word I can use.Song title: 2 Buck 4 TVArtist/Band: The J-SquadWhere you can listen to the whole song: Um…I’m not buck enough to be able to find this song. Anywhere. Katee and Joshua’s Viennese Waltz choreographed by Jean MarcThis song already has a lot that comes along with it. City of Angels soundtrack and all. I kinda got how Joshua was supposed to be a ghost a la Nicholas Cage’s character in the movie. Eh. I kinda forget most of this one.Song title: IrisArtist/Band: Goo Goo DollsWhere you can listen to the whole song: Chelsie and Mark’s broadway routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio The high hat in the beginning. Awesome. Set them up where they needed to be, mood-wise. Also, the judges didn’t talk about it, but Chelsie’s dress got caught in Mark’s suspenders. I like that she’s professional.Song title: I’m a WomanArtist/Band: Smokey Joe’s Café (Original Cast)Where you can listen to the whole song: Comfort and Thayne’s contemporary routine choreographed by Mandy MooreOh George Michael. I liked this. Softer, simpler song with really pure choreography. I think this might be when I lost all respect for Nigel. But oh wait…I almost forgot about his wonderful comment during his critique of the Bollywood routine. I definitely didn’t hate this dance as much as the judges did.Song title: A Different CornerArtist/Band: George MichaelWhere you can listen to the whole song: Jessica and Will’s Quickstep choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatinI’m not sure how the judges want Jessica to improve when they just keep pushing her down and telling her she’s not as good as Will. Now that’s motivation! This song was good for the quickstep as far as I’m concerned. Song title: Bandstand BoogieArtist/Band: Barry ManilowWhere you can listen to the whole song: Courtney and Gev’s Jazz routine choreographed by Mandy MooreI really liked the beginning. High hat again. The music worked well with the movement. Another solid Gevney routine.Song title: Standing ThereArtist/Band: The CreaturesWhere you can listen to the whole song: Kherington and Twitch’s Tango choreographed by Jean MarcI thought the first part of the tango with the blue lights worked really well with the music. Then the lights went up and the music picked up and it was all downhill from there. They’re no Brad and Angelina.Song title: Assassin’s TangoArtist/Band: Mr & Mrs. Smith (Soundtrack)Where you can listen to the whole song: Katee and Joshua’s Bollywood routine choreographed by Nakul Dev MahajanBanoodles. Katee looked like she’d been dancing this for years. Not that I’m a Bollywood expert. I loved the music. Really strong drums. The Shankman dishes on this season's contestants for LA Times. Thanks to GerritV for the link.EW's Adam B. Vary was at the Monday performance show taping. Apparently, Nigel couldn't even remember one dancer's name:I realized why this season's been such a nonstarter for so many viewers. There's been no Dominic, no Sara, no Ivan — no appealing underdog who's shown real, true improvement and growth week to week, allowing us a sense of progression throughout the season. All the dancers have either remained at the same level they started at — and that includes the out-of-the-box fabulous Joshua — or have faltered slightly since Vegas and the top 20. It's appeared to me that the judges have been working overtime to make Jessica this season's ''story,'' to set her up for some impending moment of triumph, but they've piled on so much at this point that she could just as easily crumple under the pressure. (Behind-the-scenes tidbit No. 3: It really didn't help matters when Nigel had to re-record saying Jessica's name a few times during the first ad break because, as he mouthed to someone off stage, he'd plumb forgot it when they were filming his comments.) More...Dance critic Rachel Howard, writing for the Voice Of Dance: So You Think You Can Dance doubled the ante this week with each of the top seven couples dancing not one, but two routines. Everything became twice as clear: Who’s brilliant and who ought to go home pronto; who’s holding their partners back (and I don’t mean just Jessica); and whose technique ain’t going to cut it. The hip hoppers are at a growing disadvantage now, training-wise, and yet, two of them are emerging as serious contenders, while the other two have probably stretched their crossover talents to the limit. More...Still catching up.

Musically, tonight was boring for me. Plus they cut one of my favorite female dancers. The montage songs were very…interesting? They ranged from a group of 12 and 14 year old girls to a band that’s been around for decades. Hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July weekend! Tyce Diorio’s Broadway routineSo, the camera angle and the cuts were less severe in this and I’m not sure it helped. I know, I’ve always wanted a wider camera angle that showcased all of the dancers, but somehow Tyce’s choreography didn’t hold up by itself. The music was fun?Song title: Money, MoneyArtist/Band: Cabaret (The New Broadway Cast Recording)Where you’ve heard the song before: You’ve heard a song from Cabaret before. If you like Tori Amos, you should try out Nina Storey.Where you can listen to the whole song: Matt’s soloI could watch him dance for hours, as long as it’s in his He always picks softer, slower songs, since his movement is softer. This was just another example of how fluid he can be. And how his choreography can be paired with a wonderful song.Song title: Sweet ContentmentArtist/Band: Bradley James and the RoadiesWhere you’ve heard the song before: They’re up-and-comers. Happy Fourth of July! I deleted last night's SYTYCD results show (sob), but I took notes and will carry on. Cat is wearing a pretty red dress, but for some reason has decided to walk like an Egyptian (remember the Bangles?). She has on a big chunky gold necklace that looks like it's from the days of King Tut, with her hair done up in a pigtail bun, and six inch high gold heels. I'm confused. The first number is from Cabaret...More after the jump......and is choreographed by Tyce DiOrio. I normally like his work, but this piece seems to be mostly a lot of posing and kicking and running around, using a piano and a door as props. I don't know who is being spotlighted and I don't really care, though I like the sparkly suit one of the dancers wears. Last year's final four cabaret routine was a lot more entertaining, IMO. After the dance, Tyce is introduced, and we are treated to a montage of Tyce critiques during auditions. Again, I'm confused. Wednesday night had far too much jammed into two hours, and Thursday night's begins with filler. I think someone needs to write to Nigel for an explanation. Finally, we get to the results. First up are Twitchington and Katee and Joshua, to thunderous applause. After their dances are reviewed, Cat asks, "Which one of you is in danger? Katee and Joshua, it's not you...and Twitch and Kherington, it's not you, either." This fake out didn't surprise that many people, including me, I gather (Cat has been schooled by Mary Murphy), and the four of them leave the stage in joy. Next up are Kourtni and Matt. After the clips, Cat says, "You've been in the bottom 3 twice before. Has America given you a break? No, they haven't, and you will be dancing for survival." NapTab note how strong the two of them were during the auditions, but that they haven't connected with America, and the couple leaves the stage. Courtney and Gev and Chelsie and Mark are introduced. We see and hear positive comments from the judges for both couples, so I hope they are both safe, as these are the two pairs I voted for, but Cat says that Courtney and Gev are the second couple in the bottom three. However, Nigel intimates that some dancers have to end up there each week but... it's pretty clear he wants them both to stay in the competition, I think, anyway, and I stop worrying. The final grouping is the most interesting: Comfort and Thayne and Jessica and Will. After the clips, Cat announces that the final couple in the bottom 3 is...Comfort and Thayne. Jessica and Will run off the stage with palpable joy and relief. Cat asks Mary what went wrong. She notes the new partnership, and says that Comfort is a a real asset to the show, and that Thayne is there for any partner he has and that he was amazing in the group number. At this point, I have a strong sense that Kourtni and Matt will be eliminated, as they did not receive such high praise. Tonight's dancer is Robert Muraine, and not surprisingly he is terrific. His popping, isolations, and flexible moves are as sharp as ever, and he even adds a sunglasses move toward the end for good measure. The judges give him a standing ovation and Nigel says that he is "sorry we lost you so early on when you gave up" (ouch). However, he states that Phillip Chbeeb is also fantastic (he is, but where did that come from?), and he would love to see a dance off between the two of them (oh, I get it). The audience goes wild, as do I, and within seconds it is arranged, pending Philip's agreement, which the producers might already have. If his has already been arranged (I assume it has), it will be part of the finale and will rock the house. After the break, we are subjected to more Snuggle Happy Dancing and another winner of the video contest, and I feel badly for the dancers, who have to pretend to care. I certainly don't. And then...finally...we get to the solos. Kourtni's solo is intense and really well danced, not at all surprisingly, but I don't really see the sense of joy the judges asked for. Matt shows his characteristic great technique, but his solo reminds me of last week's. Courtney's solo, her first, is full of energy. Gev dances to Fatboy Slim (I love Fatboy Slim) and he is amazing, with insane tricks--he shows off all of his b-boy moves--and I can't imagine him going home. Comfort's solo is pretty good, and she seems more comfortable than usual, but doesn't look happy when she stands next to Cat. And Thayne's solo to Queen feels different and more powerful than in previous weeks. Again, I suspect that Kourtni and Matt will be sent home. And at last, to the results. Nigel looks pretty unhappy this week, and goes into a longer than usual explanation. He says that has done seven seasons of American Idol and four seasons of SYTYCD, and and he doesn't think he ever cared as much as he does this year. He notes that the vote on the girls is not unanimous (first time this season) and starts by saying that Courtney has always risen to the choreographer's challenge, and that is why they are keeping her. I think he wanted Jessica in the bottom three instead, but in any case she runs off the stage. He then says that Comfort did NOT get his vote tonight, but that she got the others' and that Kourtni is going home. There are a lot of unhappy fans in the audience, and Comfort cries. After the highlights package, Kourtni says she could talk for hours and how much the competition has meant to her. A lot of fans hope she is an alternate on the tour. Finally, they get to the guys, and Nigel begins by saying that this is the first time Gev has done his thing and it was amazing (true), and to go sit down. And at last, we get to the two contemporary guys, and I suspect that Nigel doesn't care which of them goes home, because the other one probably will next week. He says that Thayne and Matt are in this same situation every week; however, Matt came into the competition at a high level and that's where he stayed and he will be leaving the show. (Remember, Nigel likes to see growth.) The package is shown, and Cat said he was a gentleman. He says his family and friends were 100% behind him and the contestants are the best dancers in the world, and the show concludes. I suspect that the producers did not want to break up a new couple, particularly a new couple, and it will be interesting to see who is in the bottom three next week. especially if Jessica and Comfort end up there again. See you next week.

Here's what Phillip Chbeeb said when I asked his reaction to last night's throwdown:all i would like to say is that i gladly accept the invitation...i didn't personally watch the show so I'm not sure exactly what happened...I respect Robert as a performer...but after the recent onslaught of comparisons of us on the internet i think a battle would be a great way to get all that blogging frustration out and a way to really match up our skills and />It sounds like it's on, if Nigel & Co. follow through.UPDATE: Here's Robert's appearance on the show. So this week brought on a good variety of songs. Some of the songs hurt the dancers, but for the most part it took their performances to a different level. Also, if you’d like a full playlist at imeem.com with all the songs from this episode, follow this link. If you’d like to see this every week, let me know! I also embedded a full playlist at the bottom of this post if you’re interested in hearing all of the songs without going to the website.Jessica and Will’s Jive choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatinA lot of this seemed disjointed. The music was perfect for the choreography. They just didn’t utilize either. Song title: Choo Choo Ch’BoogieArtist/Band: Five Guys Name Moe (Original Broadway Cast)Where you’ve heard the song before: The show had a brief run. Where you can listen to the whole song: More after the jump...Comfort and Thayne’s Broadway routine choreographed by Andy BlankenbuehlerI’d like to see this guy come back and choreograph a routine to this song for the Top 2 guys. I think that it would be amazing. The song creates a certain mood. Most people have either seen the movie or a school production of West Side Story, so the music comes with certain expectations. First off, the costumes didn’t go with the song. Second, Comfort and Thayne looked like they were dancing two different routines. Not even the song could save them.Song title: CoolArtist/Band: Bernstein and SondheimWhere you’ve heard the song before: The last time you were getting ready to have a rumble in a vacant lot.Where you can listen to the whole song: Kourtni and Matt’s Hip Hop routine choreographed by Cicely and OlisaThis was painful to watch. All around. I wanted this to be really good. No dice. This had a really nice beat that they could have killed. Instead they danced the steps so smooth, I could barely see what they were doing or even pay attention.Song title: How Do I BreatheArtist/Band: MarioWhere you’ve heard the song before: Who knows but now every time you hear it again you’ll picture two very awkward people not dancing hip hop well.Where you can listen to the whole song: Chelsie and Mark’s Jazz routine choreographed by Mandy MooreNow there’s the Mandy Moore that I know and love. I loved the different ways Mandy represented the song’s title. It was never overdone. Song title: Kiss KissArtist/Band: Holly ValanceWhere you’ve heard the song before: It’s been in a bunch of shows and movies. More here. I also feel like I’ve heard the melody before. Maybe I’m making that up?Where you can listen to the whole song: Kherington and Twitch’s Paso Doble choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatinThe music was really strong in the beginning and they were struggling to keep up. Once they got started though, I think they danced well with the music. There was something false about the energy in this routine though. I wasn’t a fan.Song title: MalaguenaArtist/Band: Brian Setzer ’68 Comeback SpecialWhere you’ve heard the song before: More info about the song over at WikipediaWhere you can listen to the whole song: Katee and Joshua’s contemporary routine choreographed by Mia MichaelsJust when I thought I couldn’t love Mia or these two anymore, I found a way. A perfect song. A bit haunting. It really set the mood and elevated the already amazing choreography and energy. I’d like to see every single routine they’ve done on the tour. Well, maybe I could go without the WCS…Song title: Hometown GloryArtist/Band: AdeleWhere you’ve heard the song before: It’s very early in Adele’s career but you may have heard this song on Grey’s Anatomy or One Tree Hill. I watch both. Naturally.Where you can listen to the whole song: Courtney and Gev’s Hip Hop choreographed by Cicely and OlisaThis was a dud for me. All around. Song. Choreography. Energy. Personality. Ugh. Also, creepy comment #239489302 from Uncle Nigel. Oh…and at one point, I thought Courtney was Natalie from S2. Weird.Song title: Lights, Camera, Action!Artist/Band: Mr. CheeksWhere you’ve heard the song before: It was popular a few years back.Where you can listen to the whole song: Jessica and Will’s Jazz routine choreographed by Mandy MooreYou can’t go wrong with Heart. And a shirtless Will doesn’t hurt either. I think that Mandy really used the song well. Nothing in particular stuck out but I like how the choreo was soft and then strong and then soft again to match the song. Song title: AloneArtist/Band: HeartWhere you’ve heard the song before: Here’s another song that made the rounds on Idol first. Plus Celine covered it. Where you can listen to the whole song: Comfort and Thayne’s Waltz choreographed by Edward SimonThis music was just the background. Very blah. I liked the choreography though.Song title: Hov Arek Sarer JanArtist/Band: New Age ArmeniaWhere you’ve heard the song before: I’m not sure anyone has heard this song before. Where you can listen to the whole song: Kourtni and Matt’s Mambo choreographed by Alex Da SilvaStrong music. Really strong horns. I think it could have really taken their performance up a notch if they had danced it a bit better. I didn’t hate it. But I didn’t love it either.Song title: Ban-Con-TimArtist/Band: Super All-StarWhere you’ve heard the song before: No where?Where you can listen to the whole song: This is another song that’s not around at all. You can buy the album at Amazon.Chelsie and Mark’s Foxtrot choreographed by Edward SimonOh Paul Anka. You melt my heart. Even in dog form. Perfect song for this routine. I could do without having to see that dress ever again though.Song title: It’s My LifeArtist/Band: Paul AnkaWhere you’ve heard the song before: This is a cover of Bon Jovi’s version. Which is strange. I would have thought it was the other way around.Where you can listen to the whole song: Kherington and Twitch’s contemporary routine choreographed by Mia MichaelsI wish choreographers would use John Mayer songs more often. I wasn’t in love with anything but the music. The choreography was pretty simple, but I think Mia used the song well. The dancing was a bit manic. I guess it was supposed to be like that. I would have liked a little more fluidity and maybe angst? Something’s missing. I like referencing John Mayer whenever possible.Song title: Dreaming With a Broken HeartArtist/Band: John MayerWhere you’ve heard the song before: His album Continuum. It was also on an episode of The Game. I actually saw the part of the episode with this song. Which is weird, since I would never subject myself to that show normally.Where you can listen to the whole song: Katee and Joshua’s West Coast Swing routine choreographed by Benji SchwimmerMeh. Not crazy about the song. It didn’t do anything to help the routine. Like a few weeks ago, I think Katee and Joshua’s energy and performance were above the music.Song title: Shake ItArtist/Band: Brother YusefWhere you’ve heard the song before: This is another one that I’ve never heard before.Where you can listen to the whole song: So apparently Fox decided to okay songs tonight that I have to pay $20 to buy. Sorry, ha. No dice. The full album is available for purchase at Amazon. Courtney and Gev’s Broadway routine choreographed by Andy BlankenbuehlerReally high-energy song. I agree with Tabitha. I think they could have brought the energy down for the instrumental middle section. There weren’t any layers to how they danced it even though the music warranted them.Song title: New York, New YorkArtist/Band: Bernstein, Comden, and GreenWhere you’ve heard the song before: It’s from On The Town, a 1944 musical. Where you can listen to the whole song: The part that they used starts around the 2:30 mark.

Short and sweet this week since I’m a slacker. A different set of montage songs. I hope they keep doing this, but only if Nigel promises to never use an Avril Lavigne song ever again.
Mia Michaels’ Top 16 routine
Mia Michaels finds new ways to utilize songs every time. The poles emphasizing the beat was great. A strange song for a strange dance made by a strange choreographer.
Song title: The Dance
Artist/Band: Charlotte Martin
Where you’ve heard the song before: The same place your heard the song from Kourtni and Matt’s routine from last night.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Quest’s performance
The first 30 seconds of this dance made it for me. From the laugh to hitting every beat while standing on their hands. Sick nasty. I love Quest. It almost wouldn’t be fair to have them on ABDC…
Song title: Chemical Calisthenics
Artist/Band: Blackalicious feat. Cut Chemist
Where you’ve heard the song before: Not too sure, but I think they should use it for Chemistry I would have learned my elements way faster.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Continued after the jump...
Chelsea Traille’s solo
Another slow song. Nothing spectacular as far as how she used the song.
Song title: A Song for You
Artist/Band: Donny Hathaway
Where you’ve heard the song before: Elliott Yamin and Chris Richardson both performed this song on Idol. No surprise that it ended up on SYTYCD.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Thayne’s solo
He looked like a lost dog at one point. I think I’m losing the ability to review solos because I know their song choices are limited.
Song title: Always
Artist/Band: Bon Jovi
Where you’ve heard the song before: I mean, who doesn’t love some Jovi? Even Cat loves it.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Comfort’s solo
I love me some Mary J. sometimes. This was one of those times. I liked this better than her solo last week.
Song title: Just Fine
Artist/Band: Mary J. Blige
Where you’ve heard the song before: It’s been around. I mean, it’s no Stop and Stare but it got airplay.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Chris’ solo
There’s something about his dancing that bothers me. And this song did nothing to help that.
Song title: After Tonight
Artist/Band: Justin Nozuka
Where you’ve heard the song before: I’ve never heard of it, but he did a guest spot on Degrassi: the Next Generation, so I’m sure some people have heard the song before.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Kourtni’s solo
IMO, Kourtni should dance to Ani Difranco all the time. Her energy was crazy and the way she used Ani’s words to elevate her choreography was amazing. I want to see her on tour. Dancing to this song.
Song title: Fire Door (Live)
Artist/Band: Ani Difranco
Where you’ve heard the song before: I like Ani, but if you’re not into her, you might not be familiar with the song.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Matt’s solo
Once I got past his fabulous shirt, I ended up loving his solo. The song was simple so we were able to concentrate on his movement. I ended up loving it.
Song title: I’m Yours
Artist/Band: Jason Mraz
Where you’ve heard the song before: On his newest album.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Jordin Spark’s performance
First off, I thought that if she sang right now, she’d lose her voice forever? Second, performers actually sing live these days? Third, I didn’t realize til she stopped walking that the heels clicking was in the music and not her heels. That is all.
Song title: One Step at a Time
Artist/Band: Jordin Sparks
Where you’ve heard the song before: On the raaadiooo. Oh oh. I sang that. Even though I sound nothing like Regina Spektor.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Girl’s Goodbye Montage song
You go from Kate Voegele to Idina Menzel to Avril Lavigne?! Seriously??? Pick a better song!!! At least they switch it every week.
Song title: When You’re Gone
Artist/Band: Avril Lavigne
Where you’ve heard the song before: .On her tour…oh wait…she can’t give those tickets away. ;)

I apologize for being behind this week. Here are the songs from the Top 16 Performance Show.
Kherington and Twitch’s Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon & Tabitha
First off, Nigel, you’re off your rocker. Parts were super sloppy. Stop pimping contestants, judges. It wasn’t staccato enough for me. The beginning part was on point, but the part right before the last siren, definitely wasn’t good. The snare drum gave them an amazing chance to really hit things hard. Neither of them used it. I didn’t think they had musicality throughout the whole thing. Not a fan of them dancing with that song. Although I did appreciate Kherington flipping over Twitch’s back as Busta said “Make the back flip.” I’m a nerd.
Song title: Don’t Touch Me (Throw Da Water On ‘Em)
Artist/Band: Busta Rhymes
Where you’ve heard the song before: I couldn’t figure it out for a few minutes, but then I realized, it’s in the Boost mobile commercial.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Courtney and Gev’s Rumba choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
I somehow could not get past the “adult movie” vibe at first. I know, get your mind out of the gutter, Natalie. I’m sorry. In saying that, I thought that the music elevated the choreography. It gave them the mood they needed, which made the choreography that much better.
Song title: Wishing on a Star
Artist/Band: Rose Royce

More after the jump...
Comfort and Chris’ Jazz routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio
I actually agreed with all the judges. Finally, some focus on the music! It’s a strong song. Instead of letting the song elevate their movement, they let it overpower them. Chris looked like he could have been dancing to any song. Tyce went from using a weak song to using a song that was almost too strong. He also ended it almost the exact same way Wade ended Travis and Heidi’s Afro Pop routine.
Song title: The Beautiful People
Artist/Band: Marilyn Manson
Where you’ve heard the song before: Check out some information at Wikipedia.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Jessica and Will’s Disco routine choreographed by Doriana Sanchez
The music called for high energy. They gave it to all they had. They definitely came up to meet the music. The judges said it all.
Song title: Heaven Must Have Sent You
Artist/Band: Bonnie Pointer
Where you’ve heard the song before: The Studio 54 Soundtrack
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Kourtni and Matt’s Contemporary routine choreographed by Sonya Tayek
The song was definitely something that we’ve never heard on the show. I think that it fit well with the choreography. Just quirky enough. I’m a Sonya fan.
Song title: Wrestlers (Sticky, Dirty Pop Mix)
Artist/Band: Hot Chip
Where you’ve heard the song before: In the weirdest dream you've ever had.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Chelsea and Thayne’s Quickstep choreographed by Heather Smith
Eh. Not crazy about the song. I never know what the quickstep is supposed to look like, but I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to be like that. The song somehow didn’t work for me. Maybe it was just me. There was something missing.
Song title: You Can’t Hurry Love
Artist/Band: Phil Collins
Where you’ve heard the song before: Everywhere. The Supremes recorded it originally.
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Chelsie and Mark’s Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon & Tabitha
They choreograph to the words! Hooray! Because of this, Chelsie and Mark were able to really get into the emotion of the song. I was especially a fan of when Mark was behind Chelsie and she hit each movement while he seemed to be manipulating her. Even the small movement of his fingers on her chest. I’m a pretty big fan of Napoleon and Tabitha for making my music recapping job that much more amazing.
Song title: Bleeding Love
Artist/Band: Leona Lewis
Where you’ve heard the song before: This is another Stop and Stare type song. It’s all over the place. Speaking of that song, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and Jesse McCartney wrote it. McCartney recorded it on one of his albums. Read more here: Wikipedia
Where you can listen to the whole song:
Here’s the Jesse McCartney version because I’m still floored that he recorded this first:
Katee and Joshua’s Samba choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
Loved all of it. Everything worked. Unfortunately it looks as though Angela Via’s album Supergirl which features this song is no where to be found. You can find about 7 different remixes all over, but not the original song which Katee and Joshua danced to. I have a website where you can listen to the full song, but that’s it.
Song title: Baila, Baila
Artist/Band: Angela Via
Where you’ve heard the song before: It’s like the song came out and then disappeared.

Our friend Buffmetube is a master of the art & science of montage making. He's turned his attention to Courtney & Gev.
Check out his remix of Chelsie & Mark's Tim Burton wedding routine too.

Adam B Vary comments on the Twitchington Paradox. Wasn't that a Ludlum novel?
Check out Sonya Tayeh's choreography reel. I still think she had Mark Kanemura in mind when she created that piece for Kourtni & Matt.
UPDATE: Us Magazine gets the lowdown on last night's show from Mary Murphy and Dan Karaty.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BloggingSYTYCD/~3/320806623/afternoon-update.html
Cat begins the show in a fetching white dress. After some strong solos, the show begins. Adam Shankman is this week's guest judge (I love Adam Shankman). He has on a spiffy pink tie. Mary has on a very sparkly dress, and Nigel is in white. Adam notes that Cat looks "categorically, cataclysmically (I have no how to spell this) catastic," and I am impressed by his alliteration. He notes that he has just finished shooting the new Adam Sandler Christmas movie with dancers including Lacey and Travis (yay!), and then Cat asks Mary what she thinks about the season so far. She says she thinks last year it was easier to know who would be kicked off at this point (really?!) and that this is the best year ever (really?!) and then screams. Nigel goes into a brief Cyd Charisse retrospective, which is tasteful, and notes that he danced with her 40 years ago and that she objected to the way he touched her, which doesn't surprise me.I am not going into the way each partner reveals something about the other in the package unless it's relevant, b/c it's just filler and I don't really care. Kherington and Twitch are up first with hip hop. (I guess the Twitchington moniker didn't take.) The routine is not bad, and the judges loved it, but frankly, I expected more. It was amusing and there was some nice moves, but aside from Twitch dancing with Kherington on his shoulders (very cool), I didn't see anything extraordinary. They do a prison break number choreographed by...More after the jump......Napoleon and Tabitha, and note that they don't want Twitch to come down a level but want Kherington to come up several, which I think she does. They are dressed in red and dance to Busta Rhymes. Nigel thought they showed great spirit and energy and T&N created a fantastic routine (every choreographer got praised, which has become par for the course; they better never forget anyone!). He listed all of the positives and then said there were no negatives. Mary said that they were on the top ten most wanted list of SYTYCD (get it?), and thought it was hard hitting and that Kherington did bring it up., and then she screamed as part of the "handed down Murphy proverbs" (it must be very loud in that household). Fortunately, Adam had a couple of useful suggestions (told Kherington to stay in character the whole time and know when to hit it and when to back down), but thought it was awesome, too. They are safe.Next up are Courtney and Gev doing Tony Meredith's Rhumba. I thought it was interesting that Courtney had been going to school as a special ed teacher, and I hope she'll bring dance to the in the future. Now the biggest shock of the night: Not only did Melanie's last name get used (its LaPatin), BUT she also got to speak! Unbelievable! I wonder if the producers had mandated this. Anyway, she did talk about technique, and then they danced to Rose Royce. It was beautiful. Courtney had on a sleek half blue dress (complimenting Katee's sleek half dress at the end of the show), and the dress was sexy, and smooth, with terrific partnering. I was surprised and very happy for the couple, as was Nigel, who thought they had a good connection. Interestingly, Dominic was in the audience (I'm sure it's b/c Quest is the special guest dance company tonight) and he pointed out the Dom/Gev similarities (meaning that, as many of you have guessed, there was a deliberate Gev and Courtney/Dom and Sabra parallel). That's fine with me; Dom made it to number 8 and Sabra won last year, so it hasn't hurt this couple to date. Mary thought they could be a bit more melting but was really proud of them, and Adam thought that Mary looked like a really pretty disco ball (amusing). He loved the routine too, but suggested that Gev work on his arm extensions while Mary and Nigel pretend to sleep (as if THEY don't blather on so much of the time; at least Adam was trying to be constructive). They'll be safe.Comfort and Chris are given Jazz by Tyce DiOrio and you hope that they will smash it, but such is not the case. Tyce is looking for a grounded and earthy performance (think Jessi and Pasha's terrific African Jazz from last season), but that it not what they deliver. The dance was set to Marilyn Manson (kind of an odd choice, I thought), but they don't get close to hitting the intensity of the song. Nigel says that he expected much more of the capes that used to signify the ground (earthy) and that he was disappointed with their lack of power. Comfort said they were supposed to be like African warriors, but it was clear they failed in their attempt. Nigel wanted stronger, bigger, animalistic movement, and Mary said that she lost interest as the piece progress, and Chris looked very sad. Adam said that they weren't consistent, and that the music didn't flow through their voices and their faces and Tyce looked sad. They will be in the bottom three. Mary then went on to tell them that they had been on the hot tamale train, moved to the caboose, and Comfort was now off it and I thought 1) overkill, and 2) way to break the dancers' spirits.Jessica and Will are next, dancing Disco to a Doriana Sanchez. I already shuddered, given the reaction disco usually receives, but Will hoped Jessica would have a chance to shine. Doriana noted that Jessica was not absorbing things, but the judges and I think she did decent job during the routine, danced to Bonnie Pointer, though I preferred Will's dancing. They were both dressed in white, and I found the dance rather abored, with strong turns and lifts but little flow. However, I was overruled. :) Adam said they showed great partnering (she covered a mistake of his at the end) and that it was fantastic with really challenging material. He did note, based on the package, that Jessica was beautiful and a great dancer and needed to realize this and get out of her own way., but that Will was terrific. Nigel said that they really hit disco, and Mary said that it was a turning point for Jessica and Will and that Jessica stepped up to the plate. I think they may be in the bottom three, and I would place them there, but we'll see.The next couple is Kourtni and Matt, and we got to see Kourtni's tattoo on her back that reads "...and so she would dance," an inspirational mantra of sorts. We see Matt's Ninja mask and I am not particularly amused. They were provided with a contemporary routine by new-to-the-program choreographer Sonya Tayeh, who is clearly all kinds of punk with her mohawk, tattoos, and piercings. She gave them a comic book routine with a lot of running and flirting to the music of Hot Chip (I am not familiar with this group). The costumes were bizarre, but I thought it was a fun and quirky routine, with lots of nice unison work. Nigel was pleased that they found a that worked for both of them, and that the public might not appreciate the routine but that dancers would absolutely love their technique. Mary referred to Sonya's weirdness and that the weirdness "was for sale and I'm buying it" (a new phrase), noting how the dance showcased their feet and extensions. Adam told Matt to lose the Ninja mask, seriously (ha ha), but pointed out that their bodies were in control, though he would have preferred that Kourtni not be dressed in a clown bag. All in all he thought the dance was fantastic, and I liked it a lot, too, but I am not sure that the viewers will.Chelsea and Thayne were given the Quickstep, and I thought, Uh oh, train wreck, and it really was. The choreographer was Heather Smith, with whom I am not familiar, and she put them in a hula hoop to avoid them ending up with "chicken wings" (Thayne was particularly having fun with the hula hoop). Chelsea looked very pretty in her silver dress, and I liked Thayne's black suit and gray shirt, but that was about all I liked. They danced to Phil Collins' "You Can't Hurry Love" (I had no he covered it), and they just couldn't get it down. They looked so intent on getting down the steps that they they were stiff and did not use the stage nearly as well as Pasha and Sabra did last year (though to be fair Pasha is a ballroom dancer). Nigel said they tried to keep their carriage, but that they were too bouncy, and that Chelsea didn't show any of her personality, which was necessary, so it didn't work at all. He noted how it seemed that they had band aids on their faces with smiles drawn over them, which I thought was a bit harsh. He also told them to get their solos ready, which is absolutely true, but obviously hard and maybe unnecessary for them to hear. Mary said that the dance was hard to pull off, but that it was short on substance, and since others had been able to nail it (she mentioned Kameron), they could have, too. Adam said that you can't let us know how hard it is, whether or not it is in your own though he appreciated the trust at the end (again, Chelsea helping to cover Thayne's mistake). They will be in the bottom three and I predict that Chris and possibly Chelsea will go home.Chelsie and Mark followed with a lyrical hip hop number, which was by far my favorite routine of the evening. Their choreographers were Napoleon and Tabitha, and they noted that they were bringing hip hop with emotion. In the routine, he is a businessman too consumed with work to care about his girlfriend or wife, and Mark noted that he liked having a character to work with. N&T's only concern was that they had to hit every note of the song, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" (I adore this song), and they did. The chemistry was fantastic, every isolation, move, and pop worked, and Adam was so excited that, channeling Nigel, he got up and yelled, "Yeah, that's what I was talking about!" and emphasized how the emotion shone through their eyes. Nigel loved Chelsie's passion, which he felt lacking last week, and noted that how much he was loving Napoleon and Tabitha this year, and was pleased that they had come "to the real number one dance show." I thought he meant Dancing with the Stars, but when Ted said he thought Nigel was referring to America's Best Dance Crew, I was annoyed, because it was either a cheap shot at Shane Sparks or he was comparing apples with oranges, since ABDC highlights hip hop CREWS, not individuals or couples and does not compete in the same time slot. Adam also called them the couple to beat, and while I was happy to hear that, I remembered how Anya and Danny received that tag last year, and it didn't end up so well for Anya. Mary also blathered on about the struggles of the working and I wanted to gag her.The final couple of the night was Katee and Joshua, who danced a Samba by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin (again, good to know that she has a name and can speak!). Joshua hoped Katee would accept and show off her sexiness, and she definitely did in a sexy purple dress (Joshua had on an open shirt that highlighted his masculinity). Nigel noted that they looked amazing and that Katee did not over- exaggerate her moves and that Joshua brought a natural samba rhythm to the dance. Mary noted the personality and the technicality, and gave them the hot tamale scream of the night, with two first tickets. Adam thought that they were smoking and loved it. I personally thought that Joshua wasn't quite as loose as he'd been in his other routines, and wasn't as taken with the dance as I'd been the previous two weeks, but there is no doubt that they are safe. Finally, there was some joking with Joshua's tight fitting trousers and his dad's white and yellow pants (more like pajama bottoms, but he was a great sport about it). Cat asked Nigel who might be in danger of going home, and he replied that it would be Joshua's dad (i.e., he dodged the question, but I won't).Bottom three:Comfort and ChrisChelsea and ThayneJessica and Will or Kourtni and MattGoing home: Chris and Chelsea or possibly Comfort or Jessica

Uploaded by kelxk3lWendy Garofoli at the Dancer Universe blog:Chelsie and Mark were amazing! The emotion was raw, the choreography was flipping fantastic, and I was absolutely floored by their performance. The story was about a workaholic man who keeps leaving his wife/girlfriend for the office, and her struggle to hold on to him. It was poignant, truthful, and I really believed Mark and Chelsie's pain. They could have been a bit more grounded, and sometimes their timing was off, but I'll take that over a perfectly executed but flat routine. More...
