I first discovered Age of Empires accidently one day as I was browsing through games while my parents were shopping. Although I have never heard of the game before, after looking at the screenshots on the back of the box, I noticed a striking resemblance to Dune 2. After remembering the hours of fun I spent playing it, I immediately persuaded my parents to buy me this game. Unlike Dune 2, Age of Empires took a more realistic approach by allowing you to control a civilization from the Stone Age up to the Iron Age. You would have to gather four different resources: food, wood, stone and gold. Age of Empires also offered nine civilizations to choose from, with an additional four added in the expansion pack. Duke Nukem 3D was one of my favorite games growing up. One of the things that stood out most to me about this game was that contained nudity and a lot of cursing. Although I should not have been allowed to play this game at such a young age, I do not recall games having a rating at the time. It was also the game that introduced me to the first person shooter genre. This game was most memorable to me for comical character dialogues, 3D graphics and many secret rooms to explore. FIFA was the first sports game that I ever played on a video game console. After playing FIFA, I went out and bought the hockey and basketball the same year. To this day I am still a big fan of EA Sports games and continue to buy their games every year. My favorite part about this game was the great replay value. I was able to play day after day without ever playing the same match twice. Another reason why I liked this game was the extent the game went to make the game feel realistic. FIFA 1995 [Box Art]. Dune 2 was the first real-time strategy game that I played. Because I was interested in military movies and shows, this game immediately captured my imagination. It was one of the first games in which you controlled multiple units to build a base, train an army and destroy your opponent. You were given 3 factions to choose from, each with its own unique units and buildings. The game revolved around a single resource called Spice which you would have to harvest in order to accumulate wealth. Dune 2 [Box Art]. (1991). Super Mario was the first game that I can remember playing. It was the game that sparked my interest in playing video games. It was a game that even my mother enjoyed playing, so playing video games became almost like a family activity. The long, colorful and challenging levels led me to play for hours hoping to beat it. The games simplicity, combined with a perfectly balanced difficulty making it neither too hard nor too easy, made it a game that was enjoyed by people of all ages. Super Mario Bros. [Box Art].
