Wingate University opened the School of Pharmacy on its main campus.
The first trips were to London, Paris, and Amsterdam. The students studied for 10 days.
Wingate Junior College becomes a four year college.
Helms, son of the Union County sheriff, studies at the local junior college for two years.
Local Baptists establish a school for children in grades 1-8. Named for prominent minister Washington Manley Wingate.
