He is important because he formed a fleet that defeated the British at the Battle of Lake Erie. This in turn have the U.S. hope during the war. E. Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson was a commander during the War of 1812. He is famous during the Battle of New Orleans for severely cutting the British down to 2,000 and more while the Americans suffered casualties about 70.
