After learning that her son had killed 13-year-old Broomfield girl Kelsey Shannon last year, Alex Pacheco's mother advised him not to tell others, according to an arrest warrant unsealed Tuesday.
Publicly presenting the evidence against Pacheco for the first time since he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kelsey Shannon, prosecutors said he strangled and stabbed the girl, had sex with her corpse and bragged about it to friends.
In the days after Kelsey Shannonâ€™s body was identified, residents turned a bridge near where she was found into an impromptu memorial to the 13-year-old Broomfield resident. Now friends of the Shannon family hope to make the memorial permanent.
Divers and police searched for evidence Wednesday in a pond just upstream from where the body of a 13-year-old Broomfield girl was found. Kelsey Shannonâ€™s body was found Jan. 21 in a ditch that runs through the Broadlands neighborhood. Kelseyâ€™s boyfriend, Alexander â€śAlexâ€ť Paul Pacheco, 18, of Broomfield, is charged with murdering her and is being held without bond in the Broomfield Detention Center.

Just days before Kelsey Shannon went missing, the Broomfield teen left a comment on Alexander Pacheco's MySpace page. "your should call me!!!" she wrote in a typo-laden message on Oct. 6. "i miss you alot. call my house phone. now." The day before, at 10:21 a.m., she posted an image of a candy heart on Pacheco's page that read, "Marry me." Through images, blogs and comments, Pacheco's MySpace page paints a picture of a teenage romance with Kelsey.
Alexander "Alex" Paul Pacheco called Kelsey Shannon "the girl of my dreams" on his MySpace page and spoke of plans to marry her.In the weeks following the 13-year-old Broomfield girl's disappearance in October, her friends said, Pacheco joined others to knock on doors in an attempt to find Kelsey.On Saturday -- three days after the teen's body was found in a draining ditch near her home -- Broomfield police arrested 18-year-old Pacheco on suspicion of killing his girlfriend.
