The Hispanic population in the Shadow Wood area has grown to nearly 150 residents out of a total population of slightly more than 600, according to census data.
After acquiring the property earlier in the year, the city of Champaign tears down the nearby Green Apartments, “the focal point for criminal activity in the area” and a source of “significant amounts of narcotics trafficking,” according to city documents.
