I’m Aymeric Evennou, also known as Ubi_Wuzzi, Community Developer on HAZE. I’m here to give you updates on the game and get your questions answered by the developers. Basically, if you want official answers from the team behind HAZE, ask your question and check out our regular entries on the PSB!
For today, my introduction for the first post will be nicely handled by this video, featuring Rob Yescombe, screenwriter on HAZE:

You got it, I wanted to give you details on the demo of HAZE hitting the PlayStation Network this Thursday. Some of you may know it, this demo will take you straight to the opening level, called Salva region. You will then have a first taste of the game by going through the entire first level, with its lush and bright jungle and its suitable-for-massive-assaults environment.

If that is not enough, the demo will also give you a taste of not only the single-player campaign in HAZE, but will allow UP TO FOUR-PLAYERS, drop-in drop-out co-op play online and LAN. Bringing 4 friends to massive carnage is always fun and has never been so easy! Please take note that the voice chat won’t be activated by default so, for a better experience, before starting or joining a co-op game go into the sound options menu and turn the voice chat on manually.
One last bit of information I wanted to share with you today is that the demo will also allow for “private” rooms: these are invite-only sessions that will not appear in the list of servers unless you have been invited by the host. You can assign up to 3 private slots per game, so prepare yourself to “fight the good fight” with friends!

That’s all for today. The blog is used to taking in a good amount of traffic, but apparently it wasn’t ready for the EOJ community! We had an overwhelming response and we want to thank everyone who participated. Confirmation emails are going out today to the first 500 people that submitted their info, you should be receiving cards in the next 2 weeks.
For those of you who have been hanging in suspense, sorry for the wait. Thousands of addresses were submitted and there were a “ton” of duplicate entries and incomplete submissions that needed to be scrubbed so now we can finally contact the card winners. So, if you’re wondering why it took so long to get a confirmation, now you know.

For those of you who didn’t score the cards this time around, thanks so much for participating and don’t feel bad. We had a great time, and we hope you did too!
Last Wednesday as announced here on the PS Blog, before the end of the MGO Beta we sent out a challenge to the top ranked clans in the MGO Beta to play vs our Kojima Productions/Konami team. Many thanks to the clans who participated, and all of the clans that wrote in to try to play. We truly wish we could spend all day playing, and fit everybody in, but we had very limited time – and we appreciate your patience and understanding. If you enjoyed playing, would have liked to participate, or would love more organized MGO competitions in any case, fret not – this is only the tip of the iceberg, and we have lots planned following the launch of MGS4/MGO…
I would like to extend a special thanks to the clan leaders who quickly rushed to organize and confirm their rosters for the competition: Nozdeuce of NeoGaf, Paradox Bat of W.O.L.F., THE-BIGGER-BOSS of Venom, Solid Tanuki of CheapAssGamer, and SwiftFox of SpecialOpsGroup – and, once again, all the clan leaders I chatted with who were interested to play.
Every match was an absolute blast for us to play, and for the most part, every round was extremely close. We had an amazing time chatting and playing, everyone was incredibly skilled, and really nice. NeoGaf clan member Freeman did a great job capturing and posting some videos from the NeoGaf vs KP/Konami match. Freeman has a tremendous opening from our first round of the first match, quickly laying waste to a few of our KP/Konami team members…

You can catch Freeman’s other video from the match here, where extensive use of Night Vision is employed.
Full match results after the jump.
Next, I’d like to call out that GameTrailers has posted the first installment of their incredible Metal Gear video retrospective. Be warned, it covers the whole series history in extreme detail, and contains MAJOR SPOILERS!

Lastly, in case you didn’t know, Wednesday night is Konami’s “Gamer’s Night” in SF – an event where we invite the press to come and check out Konami’s product lineup. However, it isn’t possible to buy a PlayStation development kit at your local computer store and development for the PlayStation has remained a mystery, even to very interested individuals. It gives me great pleasure to unveil the mystery and announce the PlayStation-edu program! We expect this program to be a great tool to teach students about the PlayStation platforms.
PlayStation-edu is a program for universities and colleges to get access to PS2 and PSP development kits…the same ones that professional developers use to make the games you love to play. You get the development software, the hardware, and the SDK to learn and experiment with. SCEA wants to make sure that students who are graduating from college are ready to program on PlayStation hardware and that means getting it into your hands.

PlayStation-edu is not a general game creation program (sorry artists and designers). It is for computer science and engineering students who want to understand how the hardware works in the PlayStation consoles. Schools which teach game programming or computer architecture can use the development kits in their Participants will get demo code and samples, as well as documentation about how things work. We want the dev kits used in the Students in PlayStation-edu will have access to our support web site where they can talk with other students in the program on our forums.

Of course, there are a couple caveats (aren’t there always?): Yes, your school will need to sign some legal agreements with us and yes, “get access to” means that your school will need to purchase the hardware.
For more information and application information, educators may contact me (Mark Danks) at applications@psp-edu.scedev.net. Only requests for applications from qualified school representatives will be responded to, so any students reading this should have their teacher submit the request.
