Vintage Glasgow guitar band whose moody pop sound is heavily influenced by Detroit Motown records and Elvis Presley. Undeniably raw and aggressively stylised in the leather and quiff attire of the early sixties, Glasvegas are a welcome addition to the UK's indie scene.

THE Streets frontman Mike Skinner has said that his latest album could be his last one before he moves on to some other musical enterprise.
But if the response from his hardcore fans at the 53 Degree gig is anything to go by, there’s still some mileage in his current band.
The Streets make boys dance when sober. That is a bad thing.
During some of the more punchy songs, the crowd seemed to be full of boys jerking around like an alien was about to explode from their chests.
Skinner encouraged this frenzied shuddering by telling the crowd he wouldn’t dance unless they did.
Cue even more violent twitching, usually completely out of sync with the rhythm of the song.
Classics such as Dry Your Eyes and the encore of Fit, But Don’t You Know It went down a storm but lesser known songs didn’t prove quite so popular with those students who had come along because the tickets were fairly cheap.
The twitching boys still loved it though.

There's a strong police presence tonight and that's just queuing up to gain access to the venue. On arrival a sniffer dog is kept busy detecting any possible drugs and punters are searched before being let in. With extra security inside 53 Degrees, every possible measure has been taken to curb any violence or gang related activity. It's a pity hip hop gigs have such a bad reputation as Dizzee Rascal's performance is pretty much incident free, give or take the odd scuffle at the front, but that's par for the course at any gig regardless of the genre of music................................

Wednesday night, and the lights are low… Looking out for a place to go? Then you could have done far worse than bowl along to the Hexagon for Abba tribute band Bjorn Again’s beach party gig. The diverse audience underlined the universality of the Swedish foursome’s undying appeal. Tinsel-sporting 'tweenagers', far too tender in years to have known the real group, rubbed shoulders with Parka-clad hip young things, who no doubt alleged they had come along to rattle a tambourine ironically.
