On March 18, 1910 Houdini made the first aerial flight in Australia, or so he thought was the first. It turns out that a young auto mechanic named Fred Custance had flown on March 17, 1910, one day before Houdini. The Aerial League of Australia gave Houdini a trophy inscribed, "To H. Houdini for the First Aerial Flight in Australia, March 16, 1910." The wrong date on the trophy is puzzling. Houdini may have changed the date from the March 18 to prevent Fred from getting the tittle of the man who made the first aerial flight in Australia.
Herry and Bess were found stranded in St. Louis with out work or money. With $1.50 that he somehow managed to find, Harry rented a small bedroom for a week. Then he used slight-of-hand ability to steal six potatoes from a grocer.
Less than a month after they met, Harry married Wilhelmina Beatrice Rahner (Bess is what Houdini called her) in a civil ceremony on June 22, 1894. In an attempt to please their families, Houdini and Bess were married twice more, before a rabbi and a priest.
Although Herry says he was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, Harry Houdini was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1874.
