After opposition of the Labour Party for the Communist Party Dissolution Bill, the Bill went to the High Court on the grounds that it challenged the basic rights of Australian citizens. Six of the Seven judges ruled the bill un-constitutional.

Army of communist North Korea invaded non-communist South Korea. United Nations members sent troops amde up of mainly US and Australian troops. The Korean war seemed to justify all beliefs of Communist agression. It was an example of "Forward Defence".

North Korea invaded non-communist South Korea. President Truman of the United States saw this as communist aggression and 16 United Nations members sent troops to support South Korea.
A communist movement begun to operate in the Malay jungles from around 1948. By 1950 the situation known as the Malayan emergency increased and British troops were sent. In 1955 Menzies decided to send Australian ground, naval and air troops to assist.

The 1949 Australian coal strike is the first time that Australian military forces were used during peacetime to break a Trade union strike. The strike by 23,000 coal miners lasted for seven weeks, with troops being sent in by the Ben Chifley Federal Labor Government to the open cut coal mines in New South Wales on 28 July 1949, with the workers returning to work defeated two weeks later.
