Why the French & Indian War is Worth Remembering, The Ironies of a Decisive Victory
Dr. Fred Anderson, University of Colorado, Boulder. Histories of the American Revolution tend to start in 1763, the end of the Seven Years War, a worldwide struggle for empire that pitted France against England in North America, Europe, and Asia. Among its surprising results was the disruption of the British empire as a political system; indeed, within a dozen years that empire fell into the civil war that produced in the American Revolution. Fred Anderson, Professor of History at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will seek to explain the significance of the American phase of the Seven Years War commonly called the French and Indian War -- in American history, affirming that the best way to understand the Revolution is as part of a 40-year-long attempt to assert imperial control over the Forks of the Ohio, where Pittsburgh now stands. He will argue in favor of the perhaps surprising proposition that winning an imperial war in a decisive way may ultimately carry consequences more harmful to the victor than the vanquished.

APUSH - The Seven Years War/ French and Indian War
www.apexamreview.com The Seven Years' War was a major military conflict that lasted from 1756, as a result of the French and Indian War that erupted in North America in 1754, until the conclusion of the treaties of Hubertusburg and Paris in 1763. It involved all of the major European powers of the period. The war pitted Prussia and Great Britain and a coalition of smaller German states against an alliance consisting of Austria, France, Russia, Sweden, and Saxony. Russia temporarily changed sides in the later stages of the war. Portugal (on the side of Great Britain) and Spain (on the side of France) entered the conflict later, and a force from the neutral Dutch Republic was attacked in India.[citation needed] Fighting between Great Britain, France, and their respective allies in North America had broken out in 1754, two years before the general conflict, as part of an Imperial rivalry. The fighting in North America is a separate war, known in the United States as the French and Indian War.

Québec History 8 - French and Indian War
Québec a Nation History (Part 8) Cause of the French and Indian War The French and Indian War, also known as the War of the Conquest (Guerre de la Conquête), was a war fought in North America between 1754 and 1763 The first major event of the war was in 1754, when a Virginia major named George Washington, was sent to negotiate boundaries with the French. Washington stumbled upon the French about 40 miles before reaching Fort Duquesne. In the ensuing skirmish, an officer named Joseph Coulon de Jumonville was among French casualties, news of which would have certainly provoked a strong French response. Washington pulled back several miles and established Fort Necessity. The French attacked this position on July 4, forcing Washington to negotiate a withdrawal under arms.

French and Indian War Battle of Fort Niagara 2008 reenactment
The Battle of Fort Niagara was one of the final battles in the French and Indian War, the North American theatre of the Seven Years' War. The British attack on Fort Niagara was part of a campaign to remove French fortifications from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions, allowing for a western invasion of New France in conjunction with General Wolfe's invasion to the east. In early June, Pouchot sent 2500 of his 3000 men to prepare for engagements in the Ohio valley. Having secured Fort Oswego the previous month, Brigadier General, John Prideaux arrived at Fort Niagara on 6 July with 2500 men. The French had about one hundred Iroquois allies at the Fort who deserted when the British arrived. Captain Pouchot directed a vigorous defense that claimed Prideaux's life several days into the siege. Command of the British army fell to Sir William Johnson. The French capitulated on July 26 after a French relief force was defeated at the Battle of La Belle-Famille two miles south of the fort. After a 20-day siege, a British army under Brigadier General, John Prideaux forced the surrender of Fort Niagara from the French on 26 July 1759.

Parley during the French and Indian War
While overall I thought Last of The Mohicans was only an average movie, I always found this particular scene to be intriguing: two European gentlemen engaged in parley. The scene depicts an exchange between the Marquis de Montcalm and Lt. Col. Munro during the battle of Fort William Henry in 1757, during the French and Indian War. We have grown so accustomed to "total" warfare that most of us can't believe that there was a time when enemies actually respected one another. I hope you enjoy.

The French and Indian War Rap
Shortly before the Independence Declaration Back when America wasn't yet its own nation Two colonial powers fought for territory In the year of our lord, the 18th century The French were frontin' about their furs And were also really tired of anti-french slurs They teamed with the Red Man in '54 AND SO BEGAN THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR! The British and French had been fighting seven years They got tired of France so they brought the fight here So they all arrived from western Europe A land where they have no maple syrup AT ALL! Washington led his dawgs to victory Then took em back to Fort Necessity There they rested and acted all lazy The French busted in and the shit went crazy The British were pissed cause the Reds missed their rent So they paid them back, here's how it went I'm so sick I'm not gonna make it I've got smallpox- -Here take this blanket! Now let me tell you about variola Oops one second, I need a sip of cola. Mmm that was good, now back to the lesson With smallpox virus you shouldn't be messin' If you like to vomit, then smallpox is for you It also causes a pustular rash too If you get small pox, like me Your chances of dieing are one in three The British were outnumbered 2 to 1 Washington bounced, that ain't no fun He got canned a little later on And then was replaced by the guy from Tron They took Ticonderoga a few weeks later They did it with the help of the Terminator Cyborg robots all around Indian bodies hit the ground The Indian forces began to fade ...
