Nakoa Ramsey Thomas, 22, is the city's 43rd homicide victim of 2011. His body was discovered in the city's north end, lying next to a vehicle in an alley behind the Bayview Manor apartments, near 131 Avenue and 69 Street, shortly after midnight.
A 35-year-old man is found dead inside a home at 8620 117 Ave., Oct. 8. Daniel Charles Hamer died of blunt cranial trauma.
After an investigation that stretched nearly two months, the death of a senior at the Bethany Seniors Home on Aug. 2 is ruled the city’s 39th slaying, matching the record tally set in 2005.
Investigation revealed that Ken Kopiak, 64, lit his vehicle on fire and proceeded into his apartment where he spread gasoline throughout the suite.
Subsequently, an explosion and fire occurred as a result of Kopiak’s actions, causing the death of Anna Fedorio, 83.
Fedorio’s death is ruled a homicide Sept. 30.

An 84-year-old woman attacked inside her downtown home in May is the city’s 38th homicide of 2011.
She was attacked at the Edmonton Chinese Seniors’ Lodge near 95 Street and 102A Avenue on May 8.
She died in hospital May 16. The slaying wasn't classified by cops as a homicide until Sept. 19.

Homicide investigators are probing Edmonton's 25th killing of the year.
Just after 3 a.m. Friday, cops got several calls reporting shots fired near 86 Street and 106A Avenue.
Downtown patrol officers arrived at the scene in less than three minutes, said cops, and found the body of Abdi Ali Mohamud lying in an alley with fatal injuries.

An Edmonton man assaulted Thursday on the city’s north side died from his injuries Saturday afternoon. Yusuf Abdirahim, 20, becomes the city’s 23rd homicide victim of the year. The victim was discovered unconscious on the roadway near 70 Street and 149 Avenue around 3 a.m. Thursday by an officer on a routine patrol, said Clair Seyler, Edmonton Police Service spokeswoman. The man was transported to hospital where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries two days later.
A 55-year-old man is Edmonton's 22nd homicide of the year.
The victim was found conscious but suffering the deadly single stab wound
just after 7:30 a.m. near 110 Avenue and 83 Street.
An emergency medical services crew discovered the victim and called in the
cops.
The man died about two hours later, while undergoing emergency surgery.
A 51-year-old woman known to the victim is under arrest.

An inmate is charged over the slaying of another inmate early
Thursday at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
Officers were called to the centre around 5 a.m. regarding the suspicious death of Barry Raymond Stewart, 59.
Police later classified the death a homicide.
It's the second homicide at the remand.
In 2005, Todd Stevenson was beaten to death in his cell. He died on Sept. 10, 2005, and no charges were laid.
Justin Caldwell Somers, 25, has been charged with second-degree murder over Thursday's slaying.
It's the city's 20th homicide of the year.

Michael Roach, 49, was stabbed fatally three times during a fight in an alley.
He was stabbed outside the George Spady Centre near 100 Street and 105A Avenue around 9 p.m. April 3.
Cops found the man with life-threatening injuries and he was transferred to hospital by EMS.
He died the following morning.
A 50-year-old man was taken into custody.

Police fatally shoot Kinling Robin Fire in west Edmonton. The shooting appears to have happened behind a 10007 155 St. apartment building shortly after midnight. Police said the man had a weapon.
33-year-old Bullen Ambassa is fatally stabbed in north Edmonton. He was assaulted at Village Acres, near 67 Street and 130 Avenue, around 10 p.m.
The victim died about an hour later in hospital. He was killed after getting into an argument with a woman he knew, police said.
Charged in connection with the slaying is 40-year-old Jeil Simon.

Gerry Oar was found fatally stabbed early March 5 outside what neighbours called a “crack house” in the downtown McCauley neighbourhood. The slaying — Edmonton’s 13th of 2011 and the fourth in four weeks — stemmed from a drunken fight in the rooming house, police said. Kenneth Berard, 42, of Edmonton, is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon.
Gyozo Victor Barasso, 45, is found dead in a cell at the Edmonton Max prison. The medical examiner says he died of multiple stab wounds. It's classified a homicide March 1, though Barasso was found dead Feb. 28.
Stacy Steinhauer, 28, is found dying in an alley near 119 Street and 127 Avenue.
A 25-year-old man is charged with second degree murder in connection to the death, near 119 Street and 127 Avenue.
Steinhauer was taken to hospital, where he died.

Cops lay a manslaughter charge over the 2009 death of a disabled boy.
Jan. 9, 2009, cops launched an investigation in to the death of the boy, 7, who died at his home in southwest Edmonton.
The disabled boy received round-the-clock care from his parents and medically trained caregivers.
Cops reopened the investigation several months after the boy's death after receiving new information.
The probe led to charges being laid against the caregiver who was there when the boy died.
Renee Marie Boudreau, 31, was charged Thursday with manslaughter, mischief endangering life, failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing death.
Cops have classified the death a homicide and it's included in the 2011 numbers — as that's when it was deemed a slaying — bringing the year's deadly tally to 10.

Jaswinder Takhar was found dead in her Mill Woods home Dec. 1, 2010, and police announce Feb. 10, 2011, that her death was homicide.
Police found Takhar dead inside a 4619 43 Ave. home around 4:30 p.m.
Homicide detectives were called in to probe the death due to "suspicious circumstances at the scene."
Though the homicide happened in 2010, it hits the books as a 2011 slaying because that's when it was classified a homicide.

Colby Baker, 19, dies of injuries suffered in a bar assault and homicide charges are announced Feb. 9.
He was transported to hospital from the 2 a.m. scene outside Buffalo Underground Night Club, near 102 Avenue and 103 Street.
The teen initially appeared in good condition in hospital, said police.
But only hours later, around 9:30 a.m., Baker's condition worsened and he was treated and placed on life-support.

An unidentified 17-year-old boy is gunned down by police.
According to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team's director Clifton Purvis, police were called to the city's north side shortly after midnight following a report of a mugging involving weapons near the Coliseum LRT station on 118 Avenue, west of Wayne Gretzky Drive.
Two people were taken into custody in connection with the robbery, but a third person fled from police.
Officers managed to catch up to the teen in the parking lot of the Fireside Restaurant, across the street from Rexall Place.
That's when the youth reportedly ran at the uniformed police officer, wielding a baseball bat and folding knife about five inches in length, Purvis said.
The officer shot the boy three times when he was about six to eight feet away. The boy was taken to hospital for emergency surgery, but later died from his injuries. His name was not released

Mohamud Jama, 23, is gunned down at a lounge near the downtown core early on New Year's Day, marking the first homicide of the new year.
Police responded to a call about a shooting around 3 a.m. at the Papyrus Restaurant and Lounge, 11124 107 Ave., and found Jama dead on the floor of the lobby.
There were numerous people inside the lounge. A second man, 26, was also shot and taken to hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries.
