After the U.S. government allowed Mexican-American workers temporary jobs in factories, many immigrant families moved into major cities. This caused tension between whites and Mexicans. Riots in Los Angeles erupted for four days as whites beat Mexicans and tore off their typical clothings (known as Zoot-Suits) and burned them.
Approximately 110,000 Japanese-Americans were relocated into work camps with poor living conditions as a result of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan.
Three days after the bombing on Pearl Harbor, the Allies declared war on Japan.
Italy and Germany declared war on the Unites states and America was officially a warring country.
