THe History of Chemistry has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
The neutron was discovered by an English physicist name James Chadwick. He believed that the neutron contains no electric charge. He thought it was an atomic bomb heading our way but come to findout it was a neutron. He discovered that the nucleus had different neutrally charge particles. The discovery of the neutron explain a puzzle involvong spin and the nitrogen-14 nucleus. Which most nuclei had positive charge but this one had negative charge.

Mr. Rutherford conducted the gold foil experiment. He was trying to prove that the light would pass right through the foil but the light when in the nucleus went all different ways. This proved that the atom was made of mostly empty space.
The Goldfoil Experiment Showed That The Atom Is Mostly Empty Space. The Goldfoil Experiment Was Done By Ernest Rutherford

Canal Rays were developed by Eugen Goldstein, it gave cathode rays their name. He showed that the positively charged particles are formed when electrons are removed from the gas particles in a cathode ray tube. The cathode rays can cast shadows and can be manipulated in magnetic fields.

(appoximetly 1820) The cathod Ray Tube test was tested by a scientist named J.J. Thompson. The experiment was a current passes through gasses from the cathode to the anode but bent whan closer to the closer to the anode.

John Dalton created the atomic theory of matter; He said that all matter is composed of extremely small particals called atoms.

He thought matter could be neither created nor destroyed. That led to his law, the Law of Conservation of Matter. A chemical compound is always composed of the same element. In the same proportion by mass.

In 1669, an alchemist named Henning Brandt made a discovery of phosphorus, that was unintended. he made this discovery while he was trying to turn base metals into gold. At the end of his attempt to get gold, he did not get gold, but he came up with this waxy substance that glowed in the dark. This was phosphorus, one of the first elements to be isolated. The element was made from urine, once that leaked scientists took it into their hands and labs to make a more reformed element that didnt use something so face-turning as urine? A scientists named walker discovered a friction match made from antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate, gum, and starch. they could ignite explosively and sometimes a "firework" odor. From there on out there were matches, since then they are still around but people have made more discoveries and inventions to improve this flamed reaction in a newer time.

Democritus was a Greek philosopher. He proposed that all the matter in the Universe is composed of tiny particles. He believed these tiny particles were indivisable. He named them Atomos(means indivisiable). At the time no one would believe Democritus they all believed he was crazy. One of these main people was Aristotle.

Around 400 B.C.E Democritus thought of the theory that all matter is made up of tiny particles which he called "Atomos".
