It was made by Apple in 2001 and it is a digital device that stores MP3 files on a hard drive.
The Minidisc uses digital recording and is a like a small CD.
The DAT recorder uses digital recording and records in a similar way to videos.
First made by Sony in Japan, it is made of a series of bumps in a spiral that are read by a laser when you put it in a CD drive/player.The laser tells whether it is a 1 or a 0 (binary numbers) and then you hear the sound coming out. It uses digital recording.
Created by Bill Lear (Lear Jet Corporation) an 8-track cassette has 8 tracks and uses analog recording. Sound is recorded on to a magnetic tape with a magnetic recording head.
The Phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison and it uses analog recording to record. The first thing ever recorded was the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb". The sound waves were recorded onto a tinfoil covered cardboard cylinder by a small needle called the recording stylus which made tracks on it.
