The history of the two main american political parties

After 4 years of Democratic reign the Republicans have a huge victory in the 2010 Midterm election.
Obama is the current president. He has not gotten much done and his approval ratings are dropping.
Makes it hard for Bush to get anything done. After the Democrats gain control of Congress the economy tanks.
Al Gore who had more votes, lost because of disputed electoral votes and Supreme Court rulings. Bush went through a time of the begining of the war on terrorists and suffered small approval ratings
They were able to create plans such as The Contract with America. Over time the power became reduced for the Republicans.
Although the democrats had power in the White House at the time, they did not have the support in congress.
Had many troubles throughout his presidency such as raise in unemployment and unavailable health care. Also dealt with the Persian Gulf War.
Reagan cut taxes, increased the military, and ended the Cold War with the USSR.
He becomes president after the scandals of the nixon administration. But he only stays in for one term.
Nixon was well liked for his foreign policies. He was impeached during his second term due to scandals.
Ford tries to deattach the Republican party with the Nixon scandal with little success.
During his term he dealt with the veitnam war,civil rights and social welfare legislation
Another well liked leader. He was unfortunatly shot during his term.
His term was a moderate domestic presidency and continued some of Trumans foriegn policies.
Truman deals with desegrigation of the Army. He narrowly wins the next election against Thomas E. Dewey
FDR was the most well liked president of American history. He got the country through the 30's and created alot of reform. He also was president during WWII. He died in office in 1944.
In that 20 year span no republican was elected into presidency.
Blamed for the Stock market crash and made Republicans very infamous to the people
Succeeded Harding and was elected in to office by the people in 1924
His term was as corupt as that of Grants. He died in Office
Allowed the ability to stop Wilsons peace plan at the end of WWI
Is troubled by WWI, and he had little support for his foreing policy.
Taft brings in the "dollar diplomacy"
Roosevelt creates the Republican party into the party of imerialism and had created the Big Stick diplomacy
this was during the time thatMarcus A. Hanna was republican national chairman. The republican party was a favorite of the people and very powerful.
he was elected by a wide margin. However his term was full of corruption.
After the moderate Lincoln was killed. Radical Republicans were able to take hold of congress
Abraham Lincoln passed up much more powerful politicians with the support of farmers, eastern manufacturers, and westerners.
During this time the Republicans held office only losing to the two elections of Grover Cleveland.
Despite the lose of presidential power the democrats had control over most of congress for most of this time period.
Because of issues with slavery northern and southern democrats split from one another.
Dealt with many topics such as the abolition of slavery.
Northern Democrats, Whigs, and opponents to the Kansas Nebraska act came together to create the new Republican party
During this time issues dealing with slavery and states rights were big
This party was also called the Anti-Federalists. They had many French ideals and prefered smaller government.
The democtratic rebulicans were a favorite among people. Some elections were won with no opposition.
