• New governor pardons Norris
  Oct 1976

  Clarence Norris is pardoned by Alabama Governor George Wallace.

• Patterson gets convicted for fight
  Sep 1951

  Patterson is convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 6 to 15 years. He dies of cancer less than a year later.

• The boys keep getting into trouble
  Dec 1950

  Patterson is involved in a barroom fight resulting in the death of another man. Also, Haywood is charged with murder.

• FBI get involved in finding boys
  Jun 1950

  Andy Wright is paroled. FBI arrests Patterson, but Michigan's governor refuses extradition to Alabama.

• Governor Graves denies all pardon applications.
  Nov 1938

  The Scottsboro boys go to the governor of Alabama. They ask for a pardon and are denied.

• Locked Up
  Jul 1937

  Clarence Norris is sentenced to death. Andy Wright is sentenced to 99 years for rape. Charlie Weems is sentenced to 75 years. Ozzie Powell is sentenced to 20 years for assaulting an officer.

  Ozzie Powell is shot in the head by Sheriff Jay Sandlin while he was attacking another officer

  Two lawyers are charged with attempting to bribe Victoria Price to change her original testimony

  Haywood Patterson and Clarence Norris go on trial for rape. They are found guilty and are given the death penalty

• Supreme Court Reverses Decision
  Nov 1932

  The Supreme Court, by a vote of 7-2, reverses the convictions of the Scottsboro boys in Powell vs. Alabama because they failed to provide adequate assistance of counsel as required by the clause of the 14th Amendment

• Judge Comes to a Conclusion
  Apr 7, 1931

  All but one of the nine escaped the death sentence, because Roy Wright was a juvenille.

  Trials begin in Scottboro before Judge A. E. Hawkins

  Scottsboro boys are nearly lynched by crowd of over 100 gathered around Scottsboro's jail.

• How it started
  Mar 25, 1931

  Southern freight train stops from a fight between white and black men fighting. Victoria Price and Ruby Bates get off the train and accuse the nine black men of rape. The nine black men are arrested for assault.
