So one thing I make sure I do is keep my current version of Wordpress up to date to one make sure any security holes/issues are patched up as well as to take advantage of new features that help enhance my blogging experience.
Now with that said if you are not a guru when it comes to updating systems or wanna make sure you do everything right and now bork your blog then the Wordpress Automatic upgrade is the plugin for you. It makes the upgrade process a piece of cake!
Wordpress automatic upgrade upgrades your wordpress installation by doing the following steps.
1. Backs up the files and makes available a link to download it.
2. Backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
3. Downloads the latest files from http://wordpress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
4. Puts the site in maintenance mode.
5. De-activates all active plugins and remembers it.
6. Upgrades wordpress files.
7. Gives you a link that will open in a new window to upgrade installation.
8. Re-activates the plugins.
This has been a valuable plugin I would highly recommend. Oh and hey they just released version 2.9 so now is your chance to try it out.

So I didn’t get to go to the monthly SMCKC breakfast due to a work conflict which actually was the first time I had not been to one of the breakfasts since the very first one at Homer’s where we had like 7 people there (things have come along way).
This breakfast the committee gave a little introduction and talked about what they see for the year coming up (minus me of course) but Ryan was a very good stand in.

So have you heard of the new service Clicker? Its basically looking to become the on screen guide of your computer and like a DVR where you can go see the new episodes of your favorite tv and web based shows (also music/movies). So recently I wrote about Mention Notifier which is a service that will send you either emails or text messages when you get mentioned on Twitter or you setup a twitter search and the criteria is met which is a really kool service (and they just went real time!) and now they have a new feature to the service…..Twitter list notification!
That’s right the hot new thing on the interwebs are Twitter lists and now by using Mention Notifier you can be notified everytime someone adds you to a list.

So Spay & Neuter Kansas City along with Volunteams.org have launched a doggie “food-raiser” which is geared towards helping poverty stricken people care for their animals here in the Kansas City area.
In 2008, SNKC distributed in excess of 10,000 pounds of dog food. Our goal is to raise at least that amount in one month. With your help we can. We’re asking to people to collaborate in teams to raise dog food. SNKC and Volunteams will be keeping track of pounds contributed by each team.
[side note] I have been challenged to collect 1000lbs of dog food during the “food-raiser” and I would love to reach this goal. lets smash this total everyone!!!
I think this is a great goal that with the help of social media services like blogs, twitter, facebook, ect ect it can be reached and help those pets out there who are suffering due to owners having to cut back in todays economic conditions.
So what can you do to help out? You can do a few of the following:
- pledge some money to me and I will purchase the dog food and get it to SNKC and you are done!
- take some food to SNKC directly or even give a cash donation to help SNKC reach their goal.
- spread the word by linking to SNKC, Volunteams, or my blog post.

Are you a Palm Pre user? Are you maybe not happy with the number of apps that are available in the official app store? Well there is an answer for you and it has (at the writing of this blog) 160 apps and growing!
With the homebrew apps directory provided by PreCentral.net you can get lots of apps out there that can help you customize your Pre how you want it, games, productivity apps, twitter apps, ect ect. created by developers and Pre users like yourself.
Now in order to get the functionality of the homebrew apps you have to follow a few directions but it really is not to complicated and to help with the process check out this How To : Install Homebrew apps which is very good and makes the process very simple.
Basically you need the most updated version of java, one little app to run on your machine (for just the first time then you can use filecoaster for adding apps directly on your Pre), and of course the kool code for unlocking the developer mode “upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart” (thats awesome!).
For me having the homebrew stuff is a big plus and reason I am really looking forward to getting my Pre. Today I found out about a kool new group that is forming here in the area called Kansas City Startup Drinks. What is Startup Drinks you might ask?
a) A drinking group with a startup problem.
b) A low key, unstructured group drinking (coffee, beer or spirits) event that happens in cities across the world
c) Therapy for startup junkies (you don’t have two days to go to a conference, but you do have two hours and would love to stay involved in the community)
Sounds like a great concept and I look forward to checking out any meetups in the future.

Last night we had a smckc evening event hosted by Jennings Public Relations and Advertising. It was great catching up with everyone as well as meeting a few new faces to the crowd.
After some good food, drinks, and chatter we broke into groups to discuss different aspects of social media and I decided to attend the discussion on personal branding as it really pertained to me the most.
It was a great discussion hosted and facilitated by Ramsey Mohsen who is an awesome web designer/video blogger here in the Kansas City area.

Yesterday in the mail I was suprised when I got home from work and my blog bailout check had arrived!!! 1.57 million dollars even!! But unfortunately it was not a real check. DAMN!
I while back MoneyPath setup a page where you could figure your bailout worth for your blog or your twitter account. I thought it was a kool little thing so what the heck I will try it out. My blog of course was worth 1.57 million dollors while my twitter was worth a whopping 11.7 million!

Kevin Rose recently announced the launch of his new service called WeFollow which is called “A User Powered Twitter Directory” that allows you to find people on twitter based on how they tag themselves (some of the popular tags being tech, socialmedia, blogger).
Its a pretty easy service to get youself on as all you need is a twitter account of course and then tweet the following:
@wefollow #yourtag #yourtag #yourtag (replace ‘#yourtag’ w/the tags you’d like to be listed under, example: #blogger - max 3 tags)
For myself I tagged myself with #geek, #blogger, and #socialmedia
How each tag is listed is by how many followers you have so if you have 10,000 you are more likely to be at the top and if you have 75 followers you will probably be towards the botton which of couse we have seen having a lot of followers doesn’t always make you the best person to follow on certain subjects…..but hey I think it is a start.
The service is in beta so there can always be bugs and also I am sure we will see new options and services in the future as the site grows. So check it out and tag yourself.

So thanks to the scene-stealers I get the chance to check out the much anticipated movie “Watchmen” tonight at an early screening. I would like to say thanks to the guys for giving me this awesome opportunity!
I am looking forward to seeing this movie and from some of the early reviews I have heard it is giving me hope that this movie is actually gonna rock rather then suck like it some anticipated movies of the past.
I think I am gonna head out to the theater around 5:00 after work and put a little video together with some pre and post thoughts on the film….so stay tuned and dont worry It will be spoiler free hehe.
All I can say is I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!

Screen Stealers has put together a little scavenger hunt on their site for everyone to complete and those with the correct final answer will be put in a drawing to win a pass for 2 to the early screening of the movie on March 30th, 2009 (20 total winners) at the AMC Olathe 30.
