The Stono Rebellion was the largest slave uprising in Colonial America. A group of slaves, led by an Angolan named Jemmy, march towards Spanish Florida with signs bearing the word "Liberty." The group kills 20 whites before being recaptured and killed. The rebellion fuels white fears of revolt and leads to the repressive "Negro Act."
Bacon's Rebellion occurred when a group of small Western landholders, (many of whom were freed indentured servants) led by the aristocratic Nathaniel Bacon, attempted to expand their land holdings at the expense of bordering Native Groups. When Bacon's actions were condemned by Royal Governor William Berkeley, Bacon's force turned on Jamestown, burning the capital. Bacon's Rebellion is significant because it convinced many residents of the colonies that other forms of labor would be preferable to indentured servants, who would eventually become free (and perhaps a source of unrest). http://www.virginiaplaces.org/military/bacon.html
