Question 1: Why was this game important to you? Answer: Sonic was a game I enjoyed playing with my brothers for the old SEGA consoles. It meant a lot to me to try it in 3D for the first time on my brand new SEGA Dreamcast. Question 2: From a Design Perspective, What made the game fun? Answer: This game taught me how valuable classical games were from my childhood. This was the first I saw of Sonic in 3D and I absolutely loved it. The graphics were very clean and the gameplay was a highly fun adventure game. This was the most successful sonic game in 3D and was well deserved as SEGA did a good transition with this one. Now if they could only have kept this formula and tweaked it properly Sonic would still be popular today.
Question 1: Why was this game important to you? Answer: This was the first Final Fantasy game I played and instantly became my favorite game of all time. I was 9 years old and remember watching my brother play 7 however I could never get into it. So after trying 8 led me to play every final fantasy out from 1 up. Question 2: From a Design Perspective, What made the game fun? Answer: This is a rpg type of game and the first I played. The graphics were amazing and gameplay was so much more strategic than any game I played before it. It was several cd's long and the music was immense. The storyline was unique and really engaging, the final fantasy series as a whole revolutionized games within this genre.
Question 1: Why was this game important to you? Answer: Mario 64 immersed me into a totally new environment. The graphics were amazing back then, and the gameplay was really a long and challenging adventure. My main disappointment however was no Yoshi. Question 2: From a Design Perspective, What made the game fun? Answer: This game taught me a whole new way of playing video games. While it was still a platformer, it was no longer side-scrolling. Instead, it was a full 3d world with trees and obstacles. It kept all of the fundamentals of mario but added more and enhanced the game. It was most certainly a defining moment in game history, leading the way for many great games to come.
Question 1: Why was this game important to you? Answer: Contra was the first violent game I had ever played. I enjoyed this game particularly for the co-op play. Question 2: From a Design Perspective, What made the game fun? Answer: This game taught me much more advanced combat and control. It changed from the friendly Mario jump around, to a more fast paced action game with weapons and obstacles to overcome. It also allowed you to play co-op together instead of taking turns unlike Mario before it.
Question 1: Why was this game important to you? Answer: Super Mario World was my introduction in video games. From here on out a significant portion of my life would comprise of playing video games and eventually an interest in their design and development. Question 2: From a Design Perspective, What made the game fun? Answer: This game taught me how to interact in a video game. I learned how to make rational decisions as to avoiding enemies or projectiles they fired. Super Mario World, like previous mario games, utilized an abundance of challenges that many games before them had not combined or used together thus evolving the platformer genre.
