Research on Sesame Street versus Blue’s Clues found that narrative is “sticky.” Stories retain attention better.
We DO need to lick the “story problem” in online games.

Humans always overestimate character and underestimate circumstances - Fundamental Attribution Error.
One way to combat it is to ask yourself how you would act in the same situation? Of course that would imply that you were totally aware of the situation.

The acquisition reflects the growing interest in social gaming companies and underscores how mobile is the future of social gaming, much like it’s the future for all web services.
- The Future of Social Games is Mobile
Mobile is the future of everything. Of course I’ve seen more than one mobile TV company fail. Is it really the future of everything or is mobile just caught up in hype?

In many ways, Facebook is the industry’s first “TV of gaming” – the site allows users to flip from game to game in a safe, standardized environment, with the expectations of no barriers-to-entry and that their friends will be playing the same games. By allowing players to advertise their accomplishments and invite their own personal network to play, the site goes beyond TV by letting players exert direct social influence on each other.

This should be interesting, but it looks to be more collaborative fiction than interactive story like the old Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Who ever heard of the “adventure comedy” film? I thought movie makers were treading into dangerous waters with comedy horror films like the ill-fated ‘Vampire in Brooklyn” but watching “Shanghai Surprise” thanks to the glories of Netflix streaming my opinion for Hollywood and risk or stupidity has grown by leaps and bounds.

In hindsight, the problem with Digg clones is that they’re just like forums. Anyone can set up a forum, but if there’s no community to post there, it will be empty – it’s as simple as that.
Lesson learned: without a community, most communication tools are useless.

Next might be a slow and unannounced pullback from non-core businesses. It may already be happening: last year, Microsoft manager Shane Kim (now gone) remarked that the company hopes to keep the Xbox 360 alive for ten years. That doesn’t sound like a company excited about the growth potential in console gaming and ready to pin Nintendo and Sony to the mat with the next generation. That sounds like a long, slow exit from a business that never made much sense for Microsoft in the first place.

But Digg, based in San Francisco, still struggles against the same force that has made MySpace an also-ran: Consumers don’t have an endless appetite for social networks, and only the most appealing and useful survive. All of which leads to a harrowing question for the company: Will people who are already on Facebook and Twitter become regular users of Digg as well, or have those sites already made Digg irrelevant?

Only twice since 1965, despite half a dozen recessions, have Americans spent less in a year than the previous one. Indeed, it often seems that we have defined ourselves by our ability to buy supersized everything, from McMansions to tricked-out SUVs to 60-inch flat-screen televisions—all enabled by decades of cheap credit.

“Facebook is a generational platform. Just like AIM was the most popular social tool of the nineties in the US and MySpace was huge a few years ago, Facebook is the new king in the social space. Right now, it’s cool for high school and college kids to log on to Facebook, send messages to each other, and play the myriad games that make it such a compelling platform. But as those kids grow up and enter adult life, they will find other tools – much like the AIM and MySpace crowds did – and leave Facebook in its wake.”
