The use of media has many advantages for mankind. But, every once in awhile someone comes in to history and displays the evil effects the media can have in the hands of the wrong man or woman. In this case it was Paul Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels was the Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. He was one of Hitlers devote followers and he is credited with being responsible for making an entire country of normal people hate an entire group of people biased on their religion. The date of his birth is an important date in the History of Mass Communication because on other human being understood or has ever had the effect of the power of propaganda like Goebbels did. The hope is that no one every will. He was anti-semitic and every piece of information that came out of his office was drenched in it. Without his existence in history it would be maybe we would never have realized how dangerous media can be in the hands of the wrong person. Thanks to this man an entire nation justified the murder of more than 7 million people. He used every tool for his campaign to make Jewish people the scapegoat. He took over the free press and controlled all the newspapers. Under his office the greatest propaganda film was made but Leni Riefenstahl in support of the Nazi party. He understood the power of Adolf Hitler's charismatic speeches and used him to win over the German people. At the same time radio was making it's way into homes and although he didn't know how to fully use the technology he had a recipe for it. The believed that experimentation of the medium should be done by the the government in laboratories. He believed the medium should be a form of entertainment. This lead the way for the Nazi party to keep the masses fed and in their control. It is unfortunate that a monster like this is a blemish of history. My only hope is that history does not repeat itself. In today's world I see Barack Obama having the same effect on Americans as Hitler did on the German people. Now the question is, if he also has a Goebbels on his side.
I got my information from my notes that I took on the movie we watched in I fact checked the dates on Wikipedia. I also did not create any of the media attached to this time line.

Was also a collaborated effort. Many people had one piece of the puzzle and for it to be a success the pieces had to all come together. eventually they did. At first when this medium came on to the scene it was viewed as an entertainment tool only. However, that changed when news shows went on the air. All of a sudden there was video. Motion pictures were being used to tell a story. These images had such impact that they rounded people in and put the violence, hardship and life of others in the audiences face. People didn't know hoe to react at first but the shock wore off. Soon imaged on the television screen provoked and pushed people to take action in the world. Today it seems as thought this medium has lost it's touch. It is no longer credible and in many cased people have become numb to the facts of life around them. Maybe the next medium will change that.

The telephone was a collaborate effort by many different people. It is important because without it we would still be waiting on the Phony Express to bring us the news. It allowed for corespondents to contact their editors halfway around the world. Today almost every one have one. This invention has entered and impacted the lives on everyone in the world. But, in the world of journalism it has made information more attainable. I could call a source at home and get the information I need. It's portable, fast and economical. Although the telephone did not start out that way, it have become a communication staple and now necessary for everyday life.

The Zenger case was the first case to establish the freedom of the press. This decision is monumental in the history of mass communication because it ensured our rights as humans with a language to be free to disseminate whatever information we sit fit in any medium. Although this case was about Peter Zenger who was on trial for sedition because he wrote an article stating that William Cosby, the governor of New York at the time, fixed an election, it brought Andrew Hamilton to the table. Hamilton represented Zenger and won the case.

The Gazette was the first weekly newspaper that established the of credibility. In todays world a newspaper lives and dies by its credibility. Newspapers brought about the wide dissemination of scientific advancements and the of periodicity. The Gazette was a publicity tool but it was a constant read for people and available for everyone. In regards to credibility, the paper had stories in it that were about the government and the King instead of stories of three-headed monsters. It is important because to this day newspaper are available or the mass public, depend on credibility to make a profit and have a deadline they must meet.

Robert Boyle was the first to believe in replication. Boyle is important to the history of mass communication because of the of replication. Boyle developed the system of replication, experiment and the confidence of information. He was first and foremost a scientist but with the help of a printing press he was able to document his experiments step by step and publish them so other could replicate his experiments. In doing so others began to do the same. From this came the confidence of information. People began to believe in theories and explanations of others because they were able to replicate other's experiments and using their own observations to come to conclusions.

Nicolaus Copernicus brought the world the of infinity and the of rethinking of the role of God. He came to the conclusion that the earth revolves around the sun and his findings clashed with the teachings of the church. He was a genus in his own right but, he lacked a back bone. At the time the church had everyone believing that everything revolved around the earth. Copernicus discovered the opposite, that everything revolved around the sun. Copernicus began to express his but he stopped after he was threaten by the church. He was the first man who started to take God out of the equation and in order to keep his head he put him back in. But, Georg Joachim Rheticus, Copernicus' tutie managed to write down Copericus' and published them in "First Account." Copericus' second book, "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres" was printed in 1543, the year of his death. His books were eventually banned by the church. Both of his book were written in Latin and were meant to be read by the educated His books were not meant for mass dissemination but they had enough of an effect to scare the church and rattle some cages. His sparked the scientific revolution and the fact that they were in print only made him immortal. This is what media can do to any free thinker. In today's world you can have your but the media keeps them alive after your are six feet under.

It is not known the exact time it was created but, the year is known. Although there had been different versions of movable type Gutenberg was the first to create a printing press. The importance of this press is that it was the first tool used to replicate documents, books and Once this tool was created the of individualism was destroyed. Since homogenity has been the law of the land. Even in todays world, everyone is trying to get to their own individualism but there is not turning back. One thing that is good about this tool is that complicated stories began to survive and the process of general knowledge began to speed up. But, one of the best things Gutenberg and his tool printed was the Bible. Gutenberg printed the bible in vernacular and took the church's position as being the lifeline to God away. Now people were no longer going tot the church for interpretation. People were now reading the Bible in the comfort of their own home, mulled over what they read and came to their own interpretation of what God was really saying to them. The church was no longer the middle man. it's like going to buy a car and skipping the dealer and going directly to the wholesaler. You and the wholesaler come to an agreement without input of the dealer. Thanks to Gutenberg and his invention the church lost it's power over people.

Papyrus was first manufactured in Egypt as far back as 3,000 years before Christ. Papyrus was the first real portable tool used to disseminate information. From this came cloth and many other forms of the same but not many have survived as well as papyrus. I don't think my notebook paper will survive as long as some piece of papyrus have. But this tool is important because it is a long relative and essential revolution in the means of newspapers. Although many say newspapers are a dying breed, it's not true. Newspapers are simply papyrus and it's time for the evolution to take the form of the new tool.

Now I don't know nor could I find the exact date that language was created. Every culture, ethnic group and country has one or several languages. But what is known is that any form of media would be worthless without having a system of symbols or sounds to communicate information. Language is what connects us as humans and elevates us from any other species on the planet. It is important because without it we might as well be animals.
