Nationalism is a devotion to the interests and culture of one's nation. Nationalism played a major role in shaping our economy. An example of nationalism would be how the U.S went from 13 colonies to 1 country. Sectionalism is placing the interests of one region ahead of the welfare of the nation as a whole. Our nation was divided into the North and South. The North was industrial, meaning they used basic machines and felt like they didnt' need slaves. The South was on the other hand dealt more with land and they felt as they did need slaves. Basically sectionalism is the dividing of the country and nationalism was the bringing together of our cuontry. Sources Cited: --Steamer, Robert J. "McCulloch v. Maryland." Later in the 1780's the territory was divided into the new states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and part of Minnesota. These new states gave individuals a home and a land to live on. This also showed people that the government could and would organize and set up the boundaries of our country.
