In the simulation, I lived to be 25 years of age and am still currently alive.
GDP means the total value of all final goods and services produced in a country in a year divided by the total population of the country. (a general indicator of the standard of the living of a country) and the per capita GDP in Kenya is $1,600. As a computer technician in Kenya I am making $2,850. I live on $7.80 per day.
Standard of living means a level of material comfort as measured by the goods, services, and luxuries available to an individual, group, or ntaion. My standard of living in Kenya for me now is high because I have a very well paid job, but growing up my standard of living was very low because we were very poor and couldn't afford much. In my real life in Kenya things that showed my standard of living was not having a television, not being able to afford healthcare when my family and I would get sick, and somedays not even having enough food in our house to feed our whole family. Colinization has influenced the standard of living in Kenya by improving our healthcare and they also build railroads that we can export and import goods from.
One difficulty I faced in my life was contracting Malaria. Malaria comes from mosquitos and causes sever headache, fever, shaking and chills, and vomiting and coma. This is common in Kenya and is in all parts of Kenya except for one city, the city of Nairobi. This disease impacts the country of Kenya by infecting many children and adults to the point where they are unable to function. Something Kenya could do to prevent spread of this disease is to spray themselves with bug repellent and sleep at night with bed nets and try not to get bit by any mosquitos.
One difficulty I faced in my life was Famine. During one of the famines 10,230 people died. This is common in Kenya. This disaster impacted the country of Kenya by providing no food for people, causing many people to die from starvation. It will not be too easy for Kenya to recover from this natural disaster because famines happen a lot in Kenya, so once one is over there is always another coming not too soon after.
My life expectancy in Kenya is 54 yrs old compared to 78 years old in the United States. One reason for this difference in life expectancy could be the lack of health care in Kenya and the many diseases that are spreading around. Two details about my llie in kenya are 1) that I have 10 brothers and sister and 2)I am a Christian which is the religion that Britian brought here a long time ago.
Literay Rate means the amount of people in a given area with the ability to read and write. The literacy rate in Kenya is 78% of the whole population. In my "real life" something that illustrates this education level is that I went to school starting at a young age and went to trade school and attended college as well.
In 1949 the British and Italians colonized in Somolia. The British ruled the north and the Italians ruled the south and when they came together they had many problems. Somolia in 1960 became an independent country. Somolia had lots of problems with their neighboring countries and in 1977 Somolia invaded Ethiopia. The Somolians stopped liking their president Siad Barre and starting going against him. The central government of Somolia ended, but the fighting continued throughout the country and between Islamism groups and clans. The northern part of Somolia became an independent and in the south starvation and disease were very bad. This conflict was about fighting and neighboring countries, also about a bad, paranoid president and the only reason they got that president was to try and get rid of the Europeans. Many people started to leave Somolia because of the violence and in the south there was so much starvation and disease. This caused negative net migration because more people were leaving than coming.
The reason Kenya became independent from Britian is they didn't like the rules Britian had so they created violent partisan uprisings and were granted independence in 1963. Despite becoming independent, one way Britians influence is still seen is is when they elect and vote on a president and people to be part of their government called KANU which is now NARC.
Before Europeans kenya was mainly hunting groups (Dorobo) and mixed with Bantu people also. The Portuguese came in 1498 and the Arabs drove them out in 1729. The British were interested in the area of Kenya because they wanted to use the land to buid railroads.
