Opened on Mathew Street, Liverpool, in 1979, Eric's nightclub soon gained a reputation for booking the most influential bands of the era and for supporting emerging musicians.
Among those who played there are Elvis Costello, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Joy Division, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Slits, The Stranglers, Ultravox, Wire, XTC, X-Ray Spex and U2, New Order and Mick Hucknall.
Many local acts who played there went on to enjoy national and international recognition, including Dead Or Alive, Echo & the Bunnymen, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Teardrop Explodes and The Mighty Wah!
